Hey Connie!
Things have been so crazy for us since we got back from Chicago! I can't believe you got the back of me and Alex! I am just so glad it wasn't of my butt!

Eric made it to Goose Creek after a snafu with his medical records - and now he has finally classed up this week. He was one of the kids who got a suite that all the parents and upperclassmen are upset about. He will only be there until Saturday, when he has to move. Apparently they were recarpeting or something. Anyhow, he already knows who his roommate will be and he is happy, so that is good. I think it would behoove them to make sure that they liked their roommate, so that they could totally concentrate on their studies!

It's nice to be able to talk to Eric and e-mail him too. I imagine that will change when he starts his classes on Monday. I probably won't see Eric until August - it feels like such a long way from now. Have you been following the Nuke moms site? It referenced an amazing article about the Nuke program. Let me know if you didn't see it and I will send you the link. These are some really smart kids!

Take care, and I should be around more now, so e-mail when you get a chance so we can stay in touch!

Emily called and said they went shopping and she bought a laptop. We put some money in her account towards one as a present for graduating. She said Briana was with her and is one of her suite mates. Two rooms share a bathroom... maybe that is the suite. She's having fun, but I hope she is keeping track of how much she is spending. Got to keep reminding myself: it is none of my business, she is a sailor.

Connie,
We finally got a call from Emily yesterday afternoon. She sounds so happy to just share a room with one girl! The rooms are just like hotel rooms she said and the galley has won awards for its excellent food! Emily also enjoys the free time. They will need laptops. She is asking around and is going to shop for one soon. I already sent her some homemade fudge and some other goodies. They have a small refrigerator in their room. She also mentioned that some of the new arrivals have suites because there wasn't enough room for them all in the regular rooms. Some of the higher-ups are disgruntled because those rooms are usually for them. Classes start Monday and end each day at 2 or 3, with a mandatory 2-3 hours of study after. They are in phase 1 for a month and then they can have more freedom. It was great to finally hear from her. Oh, Emily is training to be an EM because she was originally in DIV 074.

Connie,
I have talked to my son everyday since he has been there. He bought a new cell phone and has that with him, but he said there are phones as well as computers available for them to use and they pretty much have free time everyday after about 1800. I hope you hear from her soon.

Hi Connie, I know the nukes were scheduled to go to SC today. I haven't heard from mine (she asked why I expected to hear from her more often in bc!) Please let me know if you hear that they are there and getting settled. I read that they do well there if they have good study habits and are miserable if they don't. Yikes for my Emily who is bright, but didn't have to do much studying in high school.

Connie, I didn't see you at Flanagans or in the seating in front of division 086 so I hope that everything is all right and you made it safely. My Emily said that the nukes are heading to Goose Creek on Wednesday. She is an EM instead of an ET because she was in div 074 and was ASMO (still don't know what it stands for, but she was held back.) The girls were warned about guys meeting them right off the plane who will try to pick them up. That is all I know. It was great to spend time with my daughter and hear all the stories. Her pictures turned out beautifully. The main things she wanted to do on Liberty were eat at Arbys because the RDC's ate that in front of them often, visit the aquarium, eat at the Rainforest Cafe and The Cheesecake Factory. Unfortunately we didn't make the Cheesecake place in time. There was too long a wait. Hope you had a great time with your sailor!! We are all so proud of them and all their hard work!!

Connie,
Can't wait to hear from you & all the other moms about PIR today!!!!

Thanks for writing, Connie! Yes, it has been very rough and not hearing from our girls more often is a nail biter. I heard we are supposed to get another storm coming through Wednesday when my dad is arriving here (a 4 hour drive.) That is pretty neat that our girls are headed to nuke school together. All I heard from Emily was that she'll be around GL for 4-5 days after graduation before traveling to SC. Did you hear that from Briana? We have to leave early Sunday though for the trip home. I don't know much about their "A" school and what they are allowed to have and what they really won't need. She has a car here and is still paying for the insurance. Also, I wonder if they get help with their taxes... she had a job. This week is so exciting and busy for us moms, I can't even imagine what they are going through! I read that navyformoms moms are wearing red for PIR so I will too. We are thinking of checking out the aquarium with our sailor on Saturday if she wants to. Flanagans restaurant is right near the base so we might be able to be there Thursday evening. Safe travels to you too!! Elizabeth
