Wow, it's hard to believe over a year has passed since my son left for boot camp. It has just flown by these past months. We've learned to communicate in a multitude of ways including facebook, skype, webcam, sprint phone cards, and of course emai...

Wanted to thank you for your kind words. Christa is doing well considering all she has been thru. She is sitting beside me as we speak. Cuddled. She has a headach and it seems the blow to her head has made headache happen a lot now. Some hearing loss because of the cuncution. They are hoping she will regain it. I'm just so glad to have her home with us, safe.

I just wanted to tell you that I so enjoyed watching you slideshow. You have had an adventure with your son much like we have had with our daughter. They seem to take us on the experience with them don't they? I swear that when she got home from Iraq I felt like I had been at war. It's so bad when they are hurt and we can't be there with them. She is injured on base right now also with her leg and I can't do anything. She is 33 years old and has three sons yet she is still my baby.

Hi Coyote,
I was cadre at west Point - sort of - so I didn't go overseas or see a lot. The Navy is very different. I thank you for your note of encouragement! Thanks new friend! Jill

Wow - I would like to print out your whole page and send it to my son in BC! He is going on to P-Cola for IT and you and I sound very much alike in many many ways. I wonder if Jesse will go to Japan. Was it your son's first choice?

Thanks for the info. I do know about skype and my daughter and I are both hooked up to use yahoo video conference. The problem is more that my daughter is living a busy life and doesn't have the time......to go to some place like the bowling alley for free wifi. She is in one of the few barracks that doesn't have working wifi at the moment. she is really enjoying Japan and theya re scheduled to deploy again in early May so it will be a mute point again soon for a very long time. I do appreciate your taking the time to tell me about it though. I'm just still going thru withdrawals of losing my daughter and my best friend to an overseas base.
Thanks,
Charley

have talked my mom and dad into going. Don't know how much time I'll get to visit with ya'll but I couldn't be in Conroe and not hook up with ya'll - I can't shop $$ but I just want to see everyone again. Plus my folks need to see some different scenery other than their 4 walls. See my dads painting on the Navy history group page.

Hi Coyote (love the name), my son, Jonathan, just returned after 2 years in Japan, he loved it too. The time difference was a problem at first, but I learned when he was first stationed overseas (Iceland) to put a clock with "his" time next to my computer. Now that I have a new computer, I can put his time zone right on my sidebar....got to love technology! My son is also an IT and is currently stationed in Virginia for the next 3 years. I never thought the time would ever pass, but it does, and between phone calls and emails and the few visits home, we've always been able to remain close. I hope Trevor is recovering well from his broken bone! Jonathan had to have an emergency appendectomy while stationed in Iceland. It was the hardest thing to do....be a mom here in the states and have a child in the hospital thousands of miles away and no way to get to him. I was able to find a telephone number to the hospital and after several transfers got to talk to my son in recovery, but it was sure a tense hour or so until I could make sure he was okay. Please keep the group updated on Trevor's recovery!

About me:
I am slowly becoming a more seasoned Navy Mom. My son joined the Navy Dec 21st. He graduated boot camp on 4/4/08 and just completed his IT training at A-school in Pensacola in July. He is now stationed in Japan. 15 hours is a huge time difference when you are trying to stay in touch, but we are doing okay. We live in the Houston, TX area, where we moved in 2006 after living our whole lives in Modesto, CA. I work at a junior college in our area in the business office.
I am here to support or represent my:
Trevor
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I'm still learning. I'm trying hard to be supportive of his decision and not tell him how worried I am for him. I do think he made a good choice for himself, although that doesn't take my concern away.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Update on the 'sailor boy' 3/27/09

Wow, it's hard to believe over a year has passed since my son left for boot camp. It has just flown by these past months. We've learned to communicate in a multitude of ways including facebook, skype, webcam, sprint phone cards, and of course email. We have certainly had a few bumps and bruises along the way, but I'm happy to report that his injuries have healed and he has settled into life on base in Japan very well. He's learned some things the hard way...but who doesn't. He has advanced to pe… Continue

News from Japan 11/22/08

It’s been a few weeks since I have updated all of you on Trevor, so thought it was time to do so again as there have been some recent developments.

First of all, I think when I wrote the last update I told you that he had broken his scaphoid bone in his hand. He was in a cast that went from just under his arm-pit down to his knuckles with his thumb in a up position. Since then he has been seen again to have a smaller cast put on (this one goes just below his elbow) and have x-rays taken. The do… Continue

Update from Japan 10/19/08

It’s been awhile since I’ve added an update on Trevor so I thought it was about time. We talk to Trevor by phone about once a week as with the time difference, work schedules and such it is hard to converse more often than that. In addition he isn’t really able to discuss his work with us so much of our conversations are on a more personal level.

What we do know is that he is enjoying his time in Japan. For the most part he finds his work exciting and interesting. He appreciates the opportunity… Continue

First Impressions of Japan by an young sailor... 8/5/08

Our son started his own blog at my encouragment. Here's what he wrote for his first blog from Japan:

I have finally arrived in Japan. Let me first say this is the most amazing place I've ever been to in my entire life. The rolling countrysides are teaming with an unimaginable amount of life. Even in the more downtown parts of Japan; you'll see how green this place is. The people, despite some language barriers are extremely nice. Culturally, the Japanese view military members extremely highly;… Continue

Winging His Way... 8/1/08

So marks another milestone in our navy experience. We said good-bye today after 21 days with our son. He's on his way to Japan (his first duty station). He is excited at the adventures that await him and anxious to put to use his skills and training. We had a nice visit with him the last few weeks. While selfishly I would have kept him here forever, life moves forward and so must we.

Our trip to the airport this morning was interesting, since he has never traveled internationally before, and th… Continue
