I was the 410th member to sign up with Navy for Moms back in March 2008. My, my, how our little group has grown! The best thing is that we all have at least one thing in common - we love our sailors!

To all the newest members: WELCOME ABOARD!! :) This is the best place to get great advice, support, information and therapy.

My main goal in life is to strengthen my own faith and hopefully bring someone to Christ in my own small way.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Boot camp was the worst 2 months of my life. The hardest part was not being allowed to be part of his life. But, "it came to pass".

No news is NO NEWS.

Let go - he's old enough to vote. He is a man now. He really can do it without you or the Navy will teach him how.

The Navy Officers want the sailors to take control of their own lives. Things tend to go smoother when the sailor finds out and does what he needs to do, in a timely manner, tackling issues himself.

Get informed!! You don't feel so left out that way. Learn Navy lingo so you can understand terms like "port" and "starboard".

For the "Seaman to Admiral" program go to www.sta-21.navy.mil

For Navy info go to www.navy.mil/navydata/navy_legacy_hr.asp?id=261
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

"WE ARE ONE"

Support Our Troops

The following poem was written by Steven Rawlings after the 9/11 attacks. He was 12 years old at the time. We are one, united, never separated. We stand tall, fight hard, never die.
We are one, never falling, never faltering.
We shall remember those who have fallen, those who have faltered, those that have gone and never returned.
We will never forget that
WE ARE ONE!
We shall remember those who have never left this land yet have served their country better than any soldier overseas ever could.
We shall never forget that
WE ARE ONE!
All of us have been scarred by the events ofSeptember 11, 2001.
We shall pass on the memory of those who have given their lives for this country and those that have died without reason for
WE ARE ONE!
Many have fallen and many have risen but none are better than those who had given their lives and never been recorded.
The cooks, the janitors, even the privates that make those great Generals great for
WE ARE ONE!
When we fall we get back up and try again.
For every person that falls there are five to help that person up for
WE ARE ONE!

My Boot Camp Nightmare

At the time my son was due to graduate boot camp, I had posted a very emotionally raw blog about my experience. I deleted it because it made me so mad to keep thinking about what had happened. But I have been asked several times about it, so I will recount it to you now.

Steven was all set to graduate from boot camp on the last Friday in May, 2008 except for passing his PFA. He just couldn't move those big feet fast enough. We had already gotten our travel plans together, gotten permission to m… Continue

Steven's Inaugural Experience

While in high school, my son was invited to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy in Washington, DC. While there, he impressed the leaders of the Forum enough that he was sent an Ingraved Invitation to Attend the Presidential Inaguration in January 2009. Remember, this is an honor he earned while still in high school. As soon as we received the invitation, we notified the recruiter who assured us that the Navy would certainly let him go… Continue

When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building' by George Bush.

He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United

The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return

yes there is a graduation after each phase of the school A school Power school and Proto type. They are not anything like PIR for sure. I would suggest that if you want to go to them that you may want to go after proto type as then they get 2 weeks leave and they like to go home because they are going to the first duty station

Good Luck and god bless

Yes, Jason and Jessica will stay in GC thru prototype. They left this morning. He has to report back in the morning. He's going to be on hold for 2 months waiting for prototype to start. They like GC because of the weather. MY husband, one of Jason's friends and I will be going up for the 4th of July. We are so close 8 hours away, that family is all ways going to visit. We spent 3 days wanted to stay longer, but my father-in-law went and he was ready to go home.

Thanks for the note. I'll look into this with Ning. I had someone ask a similar question about groups centered around PIR dates.

I just read your post that said you are in Goose Creek and did get to be there for Steven's Power School graduation. So happy for you! Kendall said he put in for NY but the talk is his class will be put on hold and he doesn't know if he will get NY because of all the problems there. I had no clue he would want to go to NY. He wanted to see the world so maybe this is part of that goal.

Haven't heard anything concrete yet about the college thing. The paperwork is making it's rounds. Hope to hear soon.

Enjoy your time with Steven. Is he coming home on leave?

Hey Cynthia,

Thanks for mentioning that you saw the NFM ad and your compliment! Someone from N4M just contacted last year after I'd joined and asked if I was interested in helping and I said yes. I was glad to help for the organizations that does so much for us all... the Navy and N4M. Thanks again, Sherry

Man, we're the early birds here, so much has gone on with us all in such a short time, how could we help but be so close! I have missed you though, come back soon!!! Love, Cheryl

Cindy,

I know how difficult finances can be and if you can’t afford to go to Power School graduation, I am sure Steven understands. It is only a 10 drive for me, so that is not too bad. And I do have some money saved up for the trip. I have it put away so I don’t “accidentally” spend it on something else. I have not seen my son since Christmas and July 31st is still a ways off. His birthday is in July so this would be a double celebration for us. His dad may be able to go and my sister from Plano is going to try to drive out here and us drive to GC together so that will help me on the financial part. We will share out the expense.

Kendall said they are told about a month before Power School ends as to where they will be doing Prototype. Has Steven heard yet where he will be?

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. (Mine passed away four years ago in April.) I am sure it was an honor for your son to be a pallbearer for his grandfather – difficult as it must have been.

How is the healing process coming along? Have you decided to go to school for medical records training? I took three tests yesterday, have one to take today and one tomorrow. Then I should be able to register for classes. Did extremely well so far on the tests and hoping to continue to do so. It is just hard to believe I will be a full time student at 55! But if TRA is going to pay for it, I am willing to get a degree in Business Management. And the college I am going to go to has a 100% placement record. Hopefully by December 2010 the economy will have improved enough for me to get a job.

Things are still going well for my son. He doesn’t seem to be struggling so I am happy about that. It looks like those that fail out of nuke are now being processed out of the Navy. Just too many people enlisting due to the bad economy so there are not any jobs open in other areas. This makes it even more stressful for those that are having difficulties with the intensity of the schooling.

Talked to him four times Sunday. I guess he could tell I was really missing him that day. I was just pleased that he remembered it was Mother’s Day!

Let me know how things are going for you. Blessings to you, Anita
