Cyndi, my son is doing the barely passing thing. His grades are an average of 2.5 with some 2.9. The key thing I stress to him is it's passing. He does 25 hour study weeks and is getting better at studying with each session.

DWeaver, Shawn's last name is Clevenger....he says the same thing. I think they all know each other by last name only. I saw your post about your son coming home for weekends. I wish Shawn could. He is still not able to phase up due to his weight. I was bummed. We were hoping that he could come home this weekend.....so instead we are driving there. I wish he was doing better. He just seems to be struggling with everything.

Shawn hasn't made the 1st phase up yet. He was supposed to last week, but I think he is having some weight issues that have kept him from that. He is hoping to phase sometime next week. I am not sure what his division is. He has never said. I guess next time we speak I will have to ask. What division is your son in?

Hi DWEAVER - PLEASE forgive me for not answering your earlier posts, I just now figured out how to answer...Our lil angel is 5 1/2. Thats him with Steph in the pic. He also is epileptic, and the seizures keep hitting that same part of his brain. We can't find the cause, so he could have the "big one" & end his life or out grow them. He is also autistic. So we basically take things one day at a time around here. I hope we can meet up at graduation, we are planning to attend with Stevie !!
Isnt it funny how BADLY they all want their car...Stephanie just doesnt understand why I am NOT looking forward to driving hers out to GS...Gee lets see...Phoenix to GS ( through Texas ) in July, with lil brother & his service dog...hmmmm ;)

Hi Dweaver, I posted my comment, but didn't take a minute to read over the other comments. How is your son doing? I've heard all the stories about how hard this program is, and I also realize how hard this is on not only the recruits, but the parents. Is he doing better since the posts? Is he in A school or one of the other ones? I haven't been through any of this yet, but one of jordons friends is also in the nuke program and is having a really hard time. If you need someone to talk to, please let me know! You've helped me so much answering all of my questions the past week, I hope I can be of help! Becky

Hi, I had spoken to you earlier, but i'm still having a difficult time navigating through this website, so don't know how to look up prior discussions. Doesn't help when I'm on dial-up! UGH!!!! My son swore in yesterday, won't be going until April, and is taking addl' college courses this fall. I know he should take calculus and physics, but his college offers different types of these two classes. Is there a way to contact GL to find out which ones he should take, or would some of the kids there know? or even some of the moms???My brothers a master chief and said the recruiter wouldn't know, but possibly he can find out??? Jordon is not very math savvy, and anything to help him I think will benefit him, and also keep him focused for the next ten months...

That's great that you son was able to come home for the weekend and that you are feeling better about things. You're right, seeing his old friends can bring things back into focus for him. And, my feeling is that barely passing is way better than not passing, he can go up from there. It is such an adjustment starting school at GC. We went down to visit Robert for the weekend. He stayed with us at the motel but decided to go back on Saturday evening so he could get in some extra study hours. He never studied before in high school or college but now puts in extra time studying. It's amazing to see the change. He is doing OK but would like to do better. I know Gastonia is not close to Winston-Salem but I really hope you can join us next time for lunch.
