About me:
I am 40 years old and remarried to a great guy for 7 years. Our family is a work in progress - figuring out all the whole blended family thing. I have 2 children - my 21 yr old daughter who is in the Navy and a 14 yr old son aspiring to be like his big sister.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The most important thing I learned was how much I missed my daughter. Going through the whole teenage experience was rough on her and I and we drifted apart. Her joining the Navy allowed her to grow and become confident. Her enlisting in the Navy has allowed me to appreciate her in ways that were lost.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Dawn thank you so much, I'm over a year late responding I know but my son Tony has had a rough go in his Navy career and has become a single father so lots happening with him that has really stalled any ongoing Navy career path. He currently has about eight months left and really taking a beating from his superiors due to the fact that he is no longer able to deploy or even go out to sea, but I am so proud of his ability and willingness to take care of my beautiful three year old granddaughter! He is fuel engineer, PO E4 so can easily work at the large fuel place in VA after his time is done, but he is looking to become a police officer, we will see I guess. I also have an Army son stationed in WA state, deploying to Afghanistan in early January so a proud Blue Star Mom x2! Your daughter is beautiful by the way!! Thank you so much for welcoming me to the Maine group :)

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for the message. It's always nice to connect with someone back home. I feel for you not being able to have contact with Meaghan. It makes it tough. Boot camp was enough for me. My daughter Brit just got assignment to Sicily so she will be far away but we should still be in steady contact. We had heer come down to Mexico and stay with us the 3 months prior to deployment and we just loved having her here and all our neighbors jsut loved her as well. She was the best water volley ball player !! It wasn't too hard to out shine a bunch of retirees ;-) Having her here was wonderful but it made me miss her all the more when she left for boot camp. Plus our out-going and incoming mail takes much longer unless you catch someone heading to the states to mail for you but the incoming is not as great.
I will check out the Maine iac site. There are a couple I have to back out of first. Just too many emails to deal with. Are you a native Mainer?
I was getting home at least once a year for many many years but now the immediately family is gone with only cousins left. I do still try to get up there for class reunion every 5 years. Lewiston High School Class of 67.
Love your pictures. Meaghan is a cutie and she looks to be happy.

If your looking to retire in a few years you might consider Mexico. It is the #1 retirment location for the last few years. We are down here in the Ajijic / Lake Chapala area in the state of Jalisco. Living here for 2 1/2 years now. Able to retire early due to the lower cost of liveng. We're a 4 hour drive inland from Puerto Vallarta and 3 hours from Manzanillo. We live in the mountains with spring like weather year around and there is no need for heat or airconditioning. Not too shabby. We absolutly love it here.
Chat with you later,
Janet
