About me:
I am Navy Mom. My son and only child left last year on my birthday for boot camp. The hardest day of my life. I am also a very proud fist time Gramma. I work full time for Vons Grocery store. I have a wonderful husband who is in the process of changing careers to become a fire inspector.
I am here to support or represent my:
David
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was relieved
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
the power of prayer. I had to learn to put everything in God's hands. Sense I could no longer protect my son myself, I gave it to God.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Dayna
My son is also on the Carl Vinson. He is an aviation handler. I also can not wait for our sailors to be in San Diego. I am living in southern California. Sounds like you are close also. What does your son do on the cv?

Dayna, You are absolutely right this whole thing never gets any easier. I feel like a live with great highs and then those lows, all the time. I love when I see them, but dread when they leave! I am grateful that they are safe and they both respect their decisions. Will they make a career? I doubt it, but what an experience they will have gained! I know how you feel and I don't even have a beautiful, little grandchild yet! My best to you and your family and I hope we stay in touch too!

Just wanted to say Hi Dayna! My son will be joining the Carl Vinson soon. He finishes A school 7/28 and will be leaving for Virginia in a few weeks. I am glad because we are pretty close to Virginia. So this was music to my ears!
You have a beautiful family and I hope everyone is doing well! How does your son like the Vinson and what is his job?

Both our kids have great oportunities, job wise and otherwise. The Navy has been so good for them.

I'm glad you'll get to spend time with your grandbaby soon..she needs you too!! Maybe the in-law side will loosen the grip a bit for you.

David's last name is Sarinana..I don't know if their paths will cross or not, but you never know, the ship isn't THAT big. David has been doing a lot of odd jobs like, cleaning and painting, since he's been there. I would imagine when they begin doing sea trials he should be put in his job space, by then he'll need re-training! He'll surely forget half of what he's learned.
His birthday is September 8th, missed his great grandmother's birthday by about 12 hours.
My son is a bit younger than yours, I don't know how much age plays a part there, they may not run in the same circles.. ya know. It would be nice if they were friends, but, that kinda thing sorta needs to happen on its own.
That's ok, Moms don't have age limits and clicks. I would imagine we'll end up knowing more about what they are doing than they will!
Watch out when Moms start sharing stories, the boy's will say.. how did you know that? ;)

Talk to you soon,

Kathy

Hi Dayna,
It is nice to talk to other Mom's with kid's on the Carl Vinson. Another Mom (Ruth) told me her son said the Carl Vinson has a great Captain! I was glad to hear it.
My son's name is also David, which seems to be a common thread for recruits lol, I've run across three Navy Mom's so far with their own "David's".
It is selfish of me I suppose, but I'm so relieved he will be in dry dock for so long! He is quite anxious to get out to sea, but is dealing with his situation pretty well.
From what I understand, they will get underway next March and will be stationed in San Diego. I'm glad that's where he will be. I live in Northern California, but I do have a lot of family in the LA area, so San Diego will be much easier for me to get to.
I too have not been to Virginia yet, but David is planning a trip to come here to visit soon, so at least for the near term I don't have any plans to go there.
I look forward to getting to know you, I'm sure we will see each other once the kids get to San Diego!
How old is your son, and what job is he doing?
Mine is 18, he'll turn 19 in September. He has trained as an Operations Specialist..so he'll be identifying friend or foe for us. He finished bootcamp last November, so he's not quite been in for a full year at this point. He was in an apartment, but is now on base in Newport News.
He recently bought his first car.. a red Mustang no less lol, as you can imagine he's been enjoying the beach life!
Keep in touch,
Kathy
