Thanks for the info, Maegan, I will look at Hampton Inn. What exactly are the villas? Can anyone stay there and are they closer than the nicer hotels?

Profile Information

About me:
My son, Daniel, arrived in Great Lakes on May 13th. He is 23. I am 47, married, and live in Alabama with my second husband, a retired Marine, not Daniel's father. We enjoy classic cars and both my son and I have new Mustang GT's. My husband is a retired Marine and Vietnam Veteran so he is very supportive. Daniel is a red-head with the build of a football player. He has an Associates Degree in Computer Engineering Technology. I thought when he got his degree I couldn't be any prouder but his choice to join the Navy was even better.
He is now in Goose Creek, SC at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Power School. We went to visit him while he was in A-school in October of 2008. He graduates Power School on July 31st from class 0903. I can't wait to go to the graduation! He still doesn't know if he is going to Groton or will stay in Goose Creek.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I haven't really learned anything yet, other than how to worry! LOL I guess worry is the most prevalent emotion for a parent during the boot camp period. Now that he is in Power School I think pride has taken over and I realize he is a man (though he will always be my boy) . My heart catches when I hear his voice and he tells me how hard he is studying and how well he is doing. I am learning to let go.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Power school graduation is in the morning with about 400 sailors graduating. That's a lot more than I was expecting. The sailors' names are announced individually as they are handed their certificate and they make it easy for you to take a good picture of them receiving it. He will know where he will be for prototype before he graduates from power school. They usually get what they request.

No ma'm I am not in GL. I am home in Alabama. My sailor graduated from boot camp last year. We did get to spend the 4th with him though! A whole 9 hrs!!!! He brought his current girlfriend so we didn't get alot of one on one though. I was just blessed to have him there. He left this morning going back to Jacksonville, FL. We will get to go see him graduate from "C" school on July 21st! He told us yesterday he is 1st in his class (he only has 7 people including him in his class- too funny!). He brought 2 sailor friends. They were very sweet. I know you will enjoy Navy Pier! We really did- we ate at Bubba Gump's and stopped to have some foreign type of ice cream that was really good. I have some pictures on my page here or at my other site. www.heartsandstripes.ning.com.
Enjoy time with your sailor!! Blessings to you! :)
