Hi MstrChief I was a DT for five years, when to school in San Diego. I loved my job. Now my son is in Corpsman school and has Dental after that. I was disappointed when I heard they put dental in to the HM rate. I think FMTB is similar to FMF(fle...

About me:

My chosen profession is Nursing. I have one child who is enlisted in the Navy. I just completed chemotherapy and radiation for stage 4 cancer; and have had several surgeries, with two more to go. I am in remission now. My son and I are used to spending a lot of time together, but since I became sick we haven't been able to do as much. I was very involved in his extracurricular activities like football, wrestling and band, so he was used to me always being there.
I'm just THANKFUL to God that I'm alive. And was blessed to see my son graduated high school and start his new journey.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
to keep the Serenity pray in mind as much as possible. make all the friends you can to help me through it. And that I have to learn how to let go. Its' harder for me with him being my only child; but I am getting there with God's help!

Hello

Hope everyone has had a great Christmas, and will have a wonderful new year. My family and I are well and blessed.
It has been a while since I last talked with anyone from N4Ms and I have missed you all. I went back to work part time in Nov. It not as easy as I remember it being, I still get tried very easily; with a lot a pain at times. When I am not in pain I enjoy it so much. This time I am working with alzheimer's patients, something I have'nt done in a long time. I find it to be good for me.… Continue

Debra, my son is currently at Camp Pendleton awaiting FMTB (Field Medic Training Battalion or Base...not sure). The Corpsmen go there to learn how to be a Marine and work with different situations like out in the desert. Many Sailors get assigned to a Marine Div or Army Divi. At Camp Pendleton they are usually Marine Divisions. Since our Navy Sailors are dress like Marines they have to know how to act like Marines. My son said that an example is that when Navy personnel enter a building, they take their hats off inside. The Marines take their hats off outside the building. So when they are in Marine uniforms, they have to act like Marine personnel and they learn this stuff in FMTB. Also, don't worry, Navy Corpsman are protected by their Marine division as priority one in all situations. They know that the Corpsman is their link to getting back home and will do anything to protect them. If you "google" FMTB or FMF you will get lots of choices to look at to help you understand. Hope this is of help. My son is a dental assistant as well and his orders state he is to stay at CP indefinitely...but it depends on the Marine Unit he is assigned to, for if they deploy, he deploys. The dental aspect is okay but it's not what he really wants to do, but it is also an extra feather in his cap over other Corpsman and looks good on the resume. I know that they have a hard time getting recruits to sign for dental, and you can go to school to become a dentist as well through the Navy. So there are options to look at.

They are a medical assistant/medic. Some are just short of being a nurse. They also have several different jobs. Xray, equipment repair, independent duty, and other specialities related to medicine.

A Dental technician use to mean that you could be a dental assisant, xray technician, prosthetic technician, equipment repair technician, adminstrative technician, maxo-facial technician. Most Dental Hygienist were civilian. For a very short time the Navy sent some Dental Assistants to hygiene school. It was short lived.

I am not sure what a dental assistant does today in the Navy since they closed Dental Technician School several years ago and combined it with the Hospital Corps rating. This is still a sore subject with me. the Dental Technician Rating was a very proud and professional group. We excelled at everything and always seemed to rise to the top professionally.
When I was a Command Master Chief I felt honored to represent my rating and the techncians that I supported. The sailors in my Command were some of the best the Navy had and I enjoyed fighting the good battle for them.

Hi Debra - sorry it has taken me so long to respond about the sugar. I don't get on here everyday ...

Anyway, from what I can tell, it sounds like the turbinado sugar is very different from regular, white sugar. If you can't find it at the market, I would try a health food store, Pier 1, or Whole Foods Market. Good luck! :)

Hi Debra, I'm holding up OK. My husband's surgery and lymph node biopsy is Wed. Just praying that the melanoma hasn't spread. I know God answers our prayers. You have given me strength through your faith and hope. And praise God, I heard from my son and he is safe. I hate not knowing where he's at, but just hearing his voice made me feel comfort. I will keep you informed. Thank you as always my sister in faith and love..
