- Our oldest, Spencer left for GL on the 17th of March and PIRed on 5-15-09.....we are so proud of him. My husband and I have been married 24 years and also have a 19 year old daughter and a Navy Dog....(see picture!) Spencer graduated from A school at DLI in Monterey, CA on Dec. 2nd 2010. He is now in Hawaii and LOVING IT! Especially since he has a new wife and baby girl on the way!!! My first grandbaby eta: June '12!

I haven't updated this blog in ages. Spencer spent 1.5 years in Monterey at the Defense Language Institute on the Persido of Monterey. He struggled at times but stuck with it and graudated and got an AA degree in his language. Needless to say, I am so very proud of my son! We got to have him home for a week preceeding Christmas 2010 and it was wonderful. His g/f came along too and they are such a cute couple. From our home, they took off for their new (and first) duty station at Pearl…

What a day! Pass in Review is an amazing event. Seeing your sailor out there with all of the graduating divisions is enough to burst your heart with PRIDE! We only get to be with our son for a few short hours before he goes to A school but I am tresuring every moment.

I got 'the call' at 10:50 a.m. today. WOW, it's real, he's done it..........Spencer is a SAILOR in the United States NAVY! I am overjoyed and full of pride..........and exhausted! I was up four times last night, looking at the clock, knowing my son was doing Battle Stations. He said it was actually a lot of fun. I could hear the pride in his voice as we talked.
Now all I have to do is wait until PIR on Friday, 5-15-09. What a day that is going to be!

Well, it's been a long road but the end is in sight. Today I got both a letter and a short call from my recruit. He told me he'd passed all of his PFA and was looking forward to Battle Stations starting on Thursday (5/7) evening. He was looking forward to giving me that "I'm a SAILOR" call on Friday and being able to talk to me for longer.
I'm so proud of my son and can't wait to join him on 5-15-09 and celebrate his accomplishments and graduation.

Letter from a recruit..........

Today I received a letter from one of Spencer's divsion mates. I had sent an extra letter to Spencer and told him to give it to a recruit that didn't get mail that day. He did and this recruit wrote me back! He said he appreciated everyone on the 'outside' thinking about them. It was a real treat to get his letter!
He told me my son is a cool guy and also the tallest in the division. That should help when we are searching for him at PIR!

It has been a long time since I have seen my son. We could not go to the PIR. Both my husband and I could not get the time off. It is a big expense for us. (I can only remember the friends last name, so I can't tell you who it was. Lol. I can tell you that we gave him & his date a ride to the ball though =P He's a nice guy. It was nice to finally meet him too.)
