Ask Hubby and he said RPC is a Religious Programs Chief (what in the Army we call Chaplain's Assistants). He said he doesn't think the MR1 rate exists any more.

Des, I don't know what context you're getting those acronyms from but MR1 in Navy lingo is an enlisted rate, Machinery Repairman 1st Class. RPC is too vague...need some context.

Ok, I call the coord. andhe said that everything was submitted and that we could hear somethings as early as next month or as late as March to April. I hope not that long. So we are now off to apply to our colleges.

Thanks for asking the question. My son submitted his application recently, the recruiter we are working with seemed to think he has a good chance of getting in, especially with his interest in engineering. But I have no clue how the process works....

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that actually you are a bit behind schedule as far as applying goes. The first board for awarding the scholarships was this month. He sounds like a strong candidate (academically at least) so I don't think it will be a problem but still the sooner you can get his application completed and submitted the better. Also, I noted that you are located in California and wanted to point out that, as the ROTC scholarship does not pay for room and board, your son might want to consider selecting the University of San Diego or the University of Southern California as these universties reimburse the midshipmen for a portion of the room and board costs. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Welcome to the site and to our group! I saw your comment on the "Need General Info" discussion and wanted to pass on some information that you might find helpful. You can find a very useful and comprehensive slideshow at: http://www.slideshare.net/robwong4/nrotc-guide-2010. I wish I would have had access to this group and the slideshow when my daughter and I were filling out the application! Is your son in Jr. ROTC? If so, his Naval Science Instructor (or Army or Airforce) can be a big help in working through the process. If not, a local recruiter could be a good source of information for you. You should also ask your school counselor if anyone else has applied and see if you can tap into that network. The best advice I can give you would be to get organized, make a checklist and take it one step at a time. My folder was over an inch thick! I would be glad to answer any specific question you might have so feel free to contact me via my page. We also applied for the Naval Academy as my daughter was a very competitive candidate so I can help with that one, too. Unfortunately, she was DQ'd because of the degree of her myopia (nearsighedness). The navy is hard to understand at times as she corrects to 20/20 and sees well enough to have qualified for the Navy National Rifle Competion last year. Oh well, thankfully, she did receive the ROTC scholarship and her dream of being a Naval Officer will be fulfilled. Best of luck to you and your son!
