I just heard from my son that he will be going to Kings Bay to serve on the West Virginia after he goes to Washington for another school (he is ET Comm). Is there anyone with someone on the West Virginia. I naturally want all the information I can...

Melodie, Johnny just got his orders and will be going to Kings Bay but first he is going to Washington for another school until March. He is not near the top of his class so maybe all ET Coms have to go to a school beyond A school.

Melodie, When does your son graduate ET comm? My son graduates December 15. He gets his assignment next week for his sub. He has said nothing about C school.

From PVD you can get a bus to Providence then a train to New London then a taxi to Groton. Unless he has a friend with a car!

Does anyone know if all graduations are on a Friday? My son is still pretty vague, mentioning the 15th and the 18th of December for his A school graduation. I need to change my plane tickets and time is getting short for me to do that.

I can only tell you the timetable my son had with ET Comm. He entered BC on January 5 2009 and he should graduate ET Comm just before Christmas. So it took nearly 1 year to do all his schools. He had a couple short holds between BESS and Techno an...

My son is in ET/Com A school and told me his graduation was January 8. I bought a plane ticket and now he tells me they are trying to graduate them before Christmas! Does anyone have anyone who is in the same class who knows when the graduation wi...

Hi Donna. You are right. The graduation date is Dec. 15th. Brandon had originally told us Dec. 18th but called last week to give us the correct date. I am not sure whether we are going or not. Brandon told us that he is leaving to come home on the 16th, and for us it is a 19 hr drive so he would beat us back home. He really doesn't want to linger there and is anxious to get back home. Plus, my husband has to work. If we don't get to go, I hope you take a lot of pictures and don't mind sharing them on here. Congratulations to your Son.

Hi Donna,
Haven't talked to you in awhile. We just got back from Groton Ct yesterday. It was so good to see our son, as we hadn't seen him since Feb. during PIR. Anyway he looks so much healthier. Rich is coming home on leave Monday as he is on hold for A school until Aug 3rd. Has Johnny started A school? Rich's rate is ST is Johnny's the same. We were able to bring him his car, so I am hoping he will find a church he likes. He tried a couple but didn't like either. I know the longer he is the way the easier it is to get disconnected. I asked him about the Bible study on base and he says he always forgets to go. Has Johnny gone to any of the base Bible studies?

Hi Donna. I'm glad you received the letter I sent out. It's great to know there are more Navy Moms in Bulloch County! Best wishes to Johnny at Groton!

Hi Donna,
I wish Rich could do that but he is SIQ with pneumonia in both lungs and didn't get to go to the ceremony. He was third in the class so maybe Johnny would know who he is. He also is missing a lunch the Master Chief was taking the top four out to. Needless to say he is bummed. I am glad to hear Johnny is doing well also. Do you know what his rate is? Keep in touch.

Hi Donna,
Rich has not found a church yet either. He did talk to the Chaplain, she told him she would get a list of churches in the area and rides. Rich told me most of the guys he knows don't go to church so he hasn't tried really hard to find one. I think we can lift both boys up. One of his friends has been in the Navy for a couple of years, Rich went to visit him in Norfolk VA and they went to a church he loved. I think he just doesn't like the idea of going by himself.

Hi Donna,
I 'm glad you contacted me. My son finished his last test today also. He did say that there were two classes finishing at the same time. Rich is in class 9200. He was third out of the two classes. When I talked to him today he said he did really well on the last test and is hoping that he would move up. The problem in finding out if they know each other is we know everyone by first names and they know most by their last names. Rich also gets to finally leave for the weekend. His sister is going to school near New York City, so he wants to go to see her. We won't make it out to Groton until the beginning of July. We have 2 weeks of spring break at my school, so I could have gone to see him. My daughter said it wasn't a good time for her because she has a lot of projects due. Anyway, Rich thought he would be able to get leave and come home after BESS. Unfortunately his instructors pushed his class back a week. He starts ATT on May 2, so they wouldn't give him a leave. He said that he doesn't think he'll be able to get anything, but a weekend until after all of his schools. How does Johnny like Groton and sub school? How is the rest of your family. I spent the first week of break visiting my parents in Tenn. The second week I have spent helping my daughter with her kids, because she came down with a really bad case of the flu.

Hi Donna,
I am a teacher and today is Parent/teacher conferences. I am not real busy right now, so I thought I'd check in. I have found that information about what happens in Groton a little confusing. I think in the first couple of weeks they have to get security clearance and go through what is referred to as Indoc. Once they get through the Indoc phase they are able to have more freedom. They can wear civilian clothes off base and can stay out later. Actual BESS starts after they complete this. I think they are given a class number when they start Indoc. We sent Rich his phone and laptop to a friend who had been given an address. I think after he got his security clearance he was given two different addresses, one for packages and one for letters. Rich is much happier at Groton, but he was hoping to be somewhere warmer. Hope I have answered your questions.

Hi Donna,
Thanks for your prayers. I will also pray for your trip. You will be so excited to see him. It looks like your son maybe in the same BESS class as mine. Rich told me they are waiting for more sailors to arrive before they start.

Hey Donna,
I am glad to find someone else who teaches in a Christian High School. I teach at Aurora Christian High School. You can see it online www.aurorachristian.org .We have about 1000 students Preschool -12th. I think there is 380 in the highschool. I was an elementary teacher for 20 years, but love working with the highschoolers that have learning disabilities or ADHD. I am sure you are very anxious to see your son. Enjoy your weekend try and get to the Sears tower and Navy Pier.
