My daughter was in Sea Cadets and will be going to college in the fall on a NROTC scholarship. I think Sea Cadets helped all of us to be more prepared for this. If you search groups..I think there is a mom's of Sea cadets group out there too. Barb

Hi Doreen! I am so glad to meet another NSCC mom. How did your son get involved in Seacadets? Is he ready for training this summer? My son has gone to Iowa, Washington and Florida for training during his time as a cadet. It has really opened our eyes to what all the NAVY has to offer and My son has had alot of great experiences being part of this group.

I love your pixs...it looks like the Sea Cadet program is similar to the NJROTC program.

My son was in NJROTC in high school and moved up the ranks, becoming the XO in his unit his JR year. DEP is the classification for recruits waiting to attend boot camp to become a sailor. Lots of conversations on this site that will answer questions that as a mom I never thought to ask and that may help you to understand more about what the Navy will be for your son.

Welcome aboard! Check out the DEPPER's and Boot Camp groups on this site. Has your son taken the ASVAB? Has he experienced anything in Sea Cadets that he feels really suits him long term?

Hi Doreen,

This will be Meg's last month for Sea Cadets. She graduates high school on June 13th and leaves for USMC basic on June 21st.

She joined at 13 and she loves it too. She is going to miss it. She got to do some really neat things in the Cadets and if the Navy let women on subs she would have joined the Navy. The Navy is really missing out on a great sailor.

Hope your son continues to enjoy his time in the cadets.

Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:

I wrote the following yesterday and posted it in myspace, facebook, and sent it to all my friends anf family.....thought I would share it here.....although I think you all already know what this weekend is all about! God Bless!

Memorial Day is this weekend....

For many, it has become nothing more than...
...a three day weekend
...the start of the summer/beach season
...a chance to BBQ
...time to 'catch those sales'

But there are many who will not be able to...
...enjoy a day off
