Hi Eileen,
My son left today for GL. He actually is probably arriving there as I write this. I' m feeling very blue of course. I'm surprised you haven't received th phone call yet. I thought they did that right away. We spent a good part of the day with him at MEPS today and said goodbye around 1:00pm. We live about 2 hrs from GL so we will be driving to graduation. Keep in touch.

You are welcome Eileen! is your son going into the nuke program? does he have any questions my son can answer for you guys? don't make your plane tickets ( unles you can change the dates) until you find out for sure when PIR is - sometimes the length of BC is different - Aaron's was shorter than most - then some guys who got there the same week as he did ended up starting later and their PIR was 2 weeks later!

Hi Eileen,
I haven't been on this site very long either. My son, John's last day with us for awhile will be Nov 1 where they will drive him to MEPS and then onto BC on Nov 2nd. My son got sworn in when they did his physical back on Jul 23rd. He wanted to leave the soonest and ended up following in his older brother's foot steps. The same career field (FC) Fire Control with all the same training schools that his brother went to back in Jan 04. He transferred onto Friggates years later. He is on ocean duty now. I'm hoping to get an email from him soon. Is your son also going into subs? Maybe our sons will meet.
Hopeful, Georganna

I wasn't able to leave a comment on the discussion you started so I decided to comment directly to you. Our friend graduated from boot camp on Dec. 24th with some of the new sailors leaving for their new assignments immediately after the ceremony without the chance to go home first. The Navy operates 365 days/year so I wouldn't be surprised if your son's PIR is actually on Jan 1.

HI Eileen! welcome to N4M's!
This site is great to get you though the next few months - there are a couple of groups you should be checking out - they were my life lines before BC and during BC - they are:
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet
and
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms

Good places for advice and support.
PIR is usually on a Friday - it was wonderful to be able to go and watch. one thing you should think about is to maybe plan to get there on Weds - My Sons PIR was 2/27/09 - we flew out of MT and had several weather issues and long story short we made it to Great lakes about 2 hours before needing to be in line - that is after renting a car and driving from the airport in Indiana we were stuck in. Weather problems caused major delays for us.
my son had checked out OSU's Nuke program, he is hoping to get there if accepted inthe officer program! We try to get to the coast every 1 to 2 yrs - love it out your way :)
