Anti M- the way you explain it makes sense lol, I guess it's because when I ask Jake he's turning over his shoulder and asking a friend and it gets confusing sometimes if someone else doesn't know exactly or something..Does that make sense lol?

My husband just classed up after being hold for 3 months for FC A school. So it really varies, we also know a person who has been hold since December. Things are still slow, they have so many ppl and not enough room for everyone at one time for schools. Just stay positive and dont let the holds get him down. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer what I can :) Have a wonderful day!!

We think our son is doing fine in HI. He's busy because when they report to a new command that have to earn their qualifications and it can take months to accomplish so he's focused on that right now but on his last phone call mentioned...he was going sky diving soon (gulp says the mom) and one of his divisionmates bought a 35 ft. boat so...thinking his weekends are pretty planned!!! Did you get the phone call that your bf arrived at GL?

Bravo for you - no tears! Very cool that you only have 4 months of school left, you will be half done before he finishes boot camp. That will be good for both of ya. Yes, we were very spoiled with phone calls and I'm sure there were recruits doing as well or better that did not get the calls we did so please don't get your hopes up but ...when that phone does ring it will be really special. We would send a letter each day too, some with the baseball scores in it, or some of the comics or ...whatever it really didn't matter as long as they are getting support from their loved ones. He will do great!

Yeah to get bah they need to be E5 or ...married. I was a Navy wife for 10 years so I know about separations - but homecomings are wonderful :-) Okay so I know you think it will be like forever before you hear from him but if he has been doing his homework - he will EARN phone calls while in boot camp. Our son called on day 9 cause he aced some test - it took us 9 days to get his address but we got a phone the same day. I hestitate to tell you this but SOMEHOW we averaged about a phone call a week...really! My nephew was in boot camp at the same time and my sister only got 2 calls both at the very end so it really comes down to their RDC, the division, their own performance, etc. First letter comes between 2nd and 3rd week - once you get that you should get one every week. They are only allowed to write on Sundays. Be strong - it will go by sooner than you realize! Okay so you don't have to agree with that but in six weeks..you will be saying WOW, it's time for his PIR already???

Yes, top of class gets first pick of orders. However...the orders must be available to pick from meaning:

Your fiancee' wants orders to San Diego but the orders that are available are for Norfolk, Japan and Hawaii --------- well, he won't get to go to San Diego cuz there are no san Diego orders. Sometimes all the orders are simply for Norfolk but there could be six different ships to pick from. Different ships, serve different purposes. Some sailors hate being on big air craft carierrs and perfer a small ship like a cruise or a destroyer. So all of these things enter into the picture. Also depending on if he is FC or ET - this can really impact the options as well. But at this point just enjoy your time together, it will be a while before he's ready to think about orders but...he just wants to always do a good job.

Emily - with the holds that are in place right now, he will probably have plenty of time to come home on the weekends with no impact to his schooling. They generally pull duty one weekend a month so he won't be able to come home that week. As close as you are to GL - you should just finish your schooling :-) If his classes start up, I think he will still enjoy getting away from the base and coming home. Classes can be very stressful and he will need a break from the place! This is your last weekend together...?

His school will definitely be more than six months. How many miles are you from GL? The liberty policy caps miles at either 250 or 300 miles from the school (can't remember which!) so on weekends when he has liberty - after he phases up, he would be able to go home after school on Fridays and stay until Sunday evenings as long as he doesn't exceed those miles. This is called liberty and he is not charged any leave when taking liberty. Now holiday stand down...hmmm I don't think they will allow him to be on liberty more than _____ days. If his school is standdown - he has to be attached to a command so he maybe forced to take leave during Christmas. That is one time that sailors will go in the hole for leave - meaning they owe the Navy but if their schools are closed he may have to take leave.

Yes, he will get a break during Christmas! Schools are on stand down, last year it was from Dec 19 - January 4th. They earn 2.5 days leave per month and have to use leave to come home (also pay for their own ticket) but the instructors go on leave then so no classes. Promise you - if he is going into FC field, he will do A school in Gl and C school...some place else. This has been happening for decades because when they train for C school, the equipment/labs that they need are not in GL. Sooooooooooooooo...do you have a wedding planned? Wives of FCs are allowed to move to GL at the Navy's expense while they are in school because it is such a long program and then......they move them to their C school as well.
