Oh man Nancy. So much to be proud of!

Our son joined the Navy over five years ago with a couple of years of community college under his belt. He was an airman working on P3's. He was encouraged to go back, and was eventually tapped for STA21. He was sent back to complete his degree. H...

My daughter just graduated on Friday- she's 18. I fully supported her, my ex-husband kind of did once he knew she was not going to change her mind. Boot camp is tough- but if your mind is in the right place and you are committed- you can do it. Su...

Make sure that if you sign a contract, everything is specified on it. If you are getting a sign-up bonus, when do you get it? Also if what job you have chosen you get dropped from, try to specify what other job you want to pursue. Remember that wh...

Don't do it,if you don't want to get deployed, because you will,no matter what.Maybe not to a war zone but to a ship for sure, unless you like seeing water for miles and going to port every once in awhile then go for it. But you won't travel as much...

No one can predict if this is s good decision, no crystal balls around. But from a Mom's viewpoint I trust the Navy to take care of you and help you find your own path with them. My experience has always been positive. Both of my sons were in NJRO...

Taking classes did not work for my SeaBee, he was here 7 months, gone 7 months, and worked 6-7 12 hours days in a row, so study was out of the question. He did get a degree after leaving active duty, stayed reserve for the monthly paycheck, was ab...

When my daughter first went in, in 2002, it actually said it was because your visit is "monitored". They keep track of who comes and goes. I think that may be why.

My daughter has been in the Navy for over a year. when she first approached me about joining the Navy, I will be honest and say that I did not want her to join. I wanted her to go in a more 'safer' branch like the Air Force. But I supported her de...

FLozano, what's the rush to join? Can you not get a little more education before you go in? And, what 'job' is it that you think you want to do when you do go in, or are you just going to let them assign you anyplace THEY want you to be? What are your goals? What do you want to do when you get out? Oftentimes, going IN with an education affords you a better opportunity of getting what you want. Yes, you can get a degree while you're in, but it may take some time, depending on what you're assigned to doing. Last question: why do you want to join the military? Is it for adventure, education, money or to get away from home?

First thing you need to do is ask yourself a series of qeustions.
1 will i be used to being away from my family for long periods of time
2 will i get used to being told what to do how to do it and when to do it
3 will i be able to do whats needed to be done in a time of crisis
none of it is really extreme but you have to ask your self this if you intend to go to college i highly recomend it and come in as an officer and have the navy pay for it if they can. And dont be worried after basic and a school its kinda like a regular job, the navy is fun alot of the times but you got to now when to be serious.
Also if you dont want to get deployed i recomend a Rate that is undermanned because as far as i know people in over manned and even even get deployed it all depends on the needs of the navy.
Hope this helps out and i hope you join!
