Mrs. Andy, it's been 20 some years since my husband was stationed in Ballston Spa, but he found a small house near Saratoga Springs that he rented with a shipmate. Look around for mobile homes too. We lived in one when I was finally able to join h...

I can't believe this! The package I overnited to our son last week is now on it's way back to us. The mailroom said our son is not there! He gave me an address of a friend that lives in base housing. I am so angry!

Glad to read the comments about mail. I Fedex'd our sons phone to him last week. It was signed for on the 9th. Today I get a call from FEDEX telling me that the Navy says he's not there. Our son said they will get their first mail call tomorrow. H...

Thanks so much for the mail info. I was able to talk to my son on facebook yesterday. He said he would stop by the mail room to get his package. No call so far, so I gather something is going on that he couldn't get it. Hopefully today. I don't re...

My husband did get college credit for his Nuke school, you just have to look for the right college. He was able to get his BS while in the Navy (night school). Once done with your Navy career, please consider working for the Nuclear Power Industry...

OK, I need to vent. Our son just arrived in GC on Tuesday. I overnighted his cell phone to him at a hefty price. It was delivered to the mailroom at 1000 yesterday. My son never got the package. Why spend all that money to have it sit in a mailroo...

Our son graduated last Thursday. Got to spend 3 days with him. Is leaving for SC this morning. It felt good that he could share BattleStations with us because we're ex-Navy and that he could talk in Navy terms without having to explain them. Got t...

Thank you all for sharing. Our son said he was able to get our extras on another recruits list. God is good! He also mentioned that he made it through the gas chamber without losing his lunch. Still don't know what he's doing for gradation, will h...

Anyone know when our squids do Battlestations? Saw that a few divisions did them yesterday, but it would make sense that 942 won't since they perform this morning. Poor things, having to hear liberty call and have to stay there.

Has anyone seen pictures from Fridays PIR? Would love to see our squids.

Ipon- thank you for sharing the reward. I'm sure my son took food over a phone call. I think it probably did him good to get away and see some of the real Navy life that he can look forward to. Two more weeks. It will go by fast. Got his letter to...

Getting nervous about who he has on his list for graduation. He had said that couples count as one, but was going to check again. He had put his grandparents last and I'm worried that they won't get in and will have to stand outside waiting. I bel...

I didn't receive a call either :( . Was really hoping that he would have called. I'll just have to wait for another letter. I really need to get off the pitty pot and stop thinking that maybe he called his friends. Of course they wouldn't have sai...

Same story here. But, at least we were able to give some pointers on how to get through BC without a big target on his back. And, it is different! Remember when boys were "trees" and you couldn't even look at them? Now they're training together. I...

Still have questions even though I'm a Navy Vet

It's been 24 years since I let the Navy and now our son is going in. My husband is an Ex-Navy Nuc/Sub. I know things have changed (my bootcamp-gone, my command where I worked-absorbed) and I am happy to see all the comments about boot camp. I see they still send home the clothing and things that aren't needed (they threw any everything but our clothes). My family was unable to attend graduation, so all the info I can get will help. It will be nice to watch one instead of being in it.

LInda, Did you use the address of the friend? They may have returned it because he is not the registered personell in that residence (unless it was addressed Your Son C/O his friend). The address for GL is always the same...Sailor info (FN or SN Last name, First Name-Class number or INDOC or TTrack- 101 NNPTC Circle- Goose Creek, SC 29445

I have never used fedex to send him a package, always USPS Priority flat rate. It usually only takes 2-3 days to get to him and he had not had anything missing or broken...and you can get A LOT in that $14 box (even has tracking for only 30 cents more!) You can also get free shipping boxes sent to your home at this website:

https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10052&categoryId=10000036&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10000002&top_category=10000002&WT.ac=10000036

Also, keep in mind that when it is scanned as received, it has only been delivered to the base, it could take another day or two to actually get to him. From the Dayton, Ohio area, if we mail by noon on Tuesday, he will get his box by Friday--if the sailor assigned to pick up the mail actually goes and gets it--I usually let my son know that there is a package coming or when it has been scanned into GC so that he can harp on that sailor to "Get his stuff!" Hope that helps for the future!

Linda, Hi my son Adam is in Div 942. I noticed you left a comment for me on 7/21. I just returned from youth group trip to New Orleans and this is the first opportunity I have had to catch up on N4Ms. I was glad to see that Susan H answered your question about the division. My son is an air crew machinist mate and he plays french horn in the band. So sorry to hear that your son has been sick. Adam didn't say anything about being sick, just that his butt still hurt from the mega shot that he got!

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz.. What will your son/daughter be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your recruit. Pat
