We have stayed at this motel many times on our visits to our son. It is not fancy, but it's clean. Also not that expensive. Our son books the room for us and I think he gets a military discount. The main reason we stay there is because they alllow...

I know what you mean ... close enough to visit but far enough for them to be on their own and mature. But I still miss him. He'll be coming home next weekend for his brother's 22nd birthday celebration. Then he'd already made plans to come home for Labor Day weekend, too.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my future son-in-law Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What is your son doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat

Hey There! My oldest, Spencer, already has several churches interested in hiring him for youth ministry as soon as he graduates in December. Some of them have offered to pay for his seminary if he does it online. From what I understand, that's becoming more & more common. Anyway, that's what he's thinking of doing. His girlfriend will graduate in December with her masters in speech something-or-another ... she works with the hearing impaired. But after she graduates, she has a 6-month unpaid internship to complete before she can actually get the job she's going to school for. So Spencer figures that gives him 6-months to get a good position ... with insurance! ... get started online with the seminary ... and then as soon as she finishes her internship and gets a job, they're getting married.
Anyway, UGA is such a huge campus that I can't image that you'd actually know either of them. My daughter, Haley, was thinking of going to Athens but then she thought about the size of most of those freshman classes and decided on a smaller school. She really wanted to go to Young Harris, but with it being a private school so HOPE only pays $3000 a year, that just wasn't going to work out.
Here's another "in common" thing we've got going ... I work at a college, too! Gainesville State College in Oakwood. I'm the catering director.
Well, keep in touch. It'd be wild if our sailors knew each other, too. but from what Winston tells me, they don't socialize much outside of their class, except maybe at the Smoking Pad ... I've heard stories of cigars, card games, volleyball games, and frisbees.

Hi GA Ladybug! My son is also in GC ... just graduated A-school and will start Power School on Aug. 6th. My daughter starts North Georgia in Dahlonega next month, majoring in Elementary Education. And my other son is a senior at UGA and lives in Athens. Looks like we have a lot in common! I'm a member of the Georgia Navy Moms group and the NUKE Moms group, but don't keep up with it as closely as I used to. I'd love to hear from you. Give me a shout when you get a chance.
