From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Support him. Also discovered the variety of opportunities available to him now that he's in the Navy!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Got our 1st LONG Phone Call...

David called Firday 4/18 around 5 Chicago time....we talked for about 20-25 minutes (his sgt was telling the sailors how much time left.) He sounded fine....said not talking to family and friends is one of the hardest parts -- kind of like "prison" -- but he's adjusting. Food is still great, phys activity isn't too overwhelming....I warned him about battlestations...he said that will be hard! He did great on last weeks test -- Feel so relieved!!!
Hope others moms/families in 927 got their calls… Continue

Gloria thanks for the kind words about Jeff. He certainly has grown up in the past two years. You must be so excited to have David home before he leaves for Japan. The hardest part for me is not being able to talk with Jeff for weeks and months on end. At least in Japan you can still email and call! Enjoy his visit. I would love to meet anytime at Tony's Pizza. There are several other NWI mom's who could not go to Indianapolis who would do a local meet up.

It is so good to hear from, I am glad David is enjoying himself. Brandon was just at Virginia Beach a few weekends ago see one of his friends that is in the Navy. I bet he would have loved to see David but did not know he was there.. Brandon will be done with power school in April then will start proto-type for 6 months. So we have him for about another year then he will be out on a carrier somewhere. He is still in Charleston so he comes home about every month for the weekend and I talk him about 3 times a day. It will be hard once he is on a ship. Nuke school has been very challenging for him but loves it. I have not updated my page for while. Do you happen to have a myspace page? I am on it a lot because that is where Brandon post everything. He has a few guys from boot camp with him and they all hang out together. Please keep in touch with me…

Hi - of course I remember you! Aaron is doing well. He likes Hawaii. Haven't seen him since July but am going for a visit in June. I can't wait. It was so nice to hear from you - some of the PIR group are not on anymore. Hope you have a wonderful New Year! Sue

Brandon is doing good. He has been home for the weekend several times now. Finishes A school on September 5 then comes home for two weeks then back to Charleston for Power school for 6 months. He hangs out with Ciscel, Castleman and Travelstand from BC. He is still very home sick I think most of that is because his girlfriend is here. I am so very lucky he is so close to home he will be there for about 1 more year then who knows where he will go. I am glad David is doing good.. I hope they get see each other again during their journey with the NAVY. Keep in touch….

Hi Gloria,
I envy you close proximity to the guys! Andrew is doing well...he is in corpsmen's school as well and the last time I heard from him he stated he received orders for Virginia. He is going to study psych...which makes sense with all his families background in that field. I sure can't get use to him being away! Glad though that he's going to Virginia. His dad and I were stationed there, so I can't wait to visit!
Bloomington is good. I really like it here but like it more when the students aren't moving in =) Lot's of traffic and people not knowing where to go and long lines in resturants, etc. Oh well.....such is life =) Thanks for the note and hope that all is well with you.

Hey Gloria I was just checking to see how David is doing? Brandon is flying home this Friday and driving his car back Sunday. It will be his first time home since he left in March he is glad to be able to see home….He said last night I have to make his favorite meal and he is taking a bath he said he tired of showers. I guess it is the little things we do everyday.. Write me back and let me know what is going on with David.

It sounds like Brandon is happy at A school...David likes it too, except classes won't begin maybe until this week or next Monday...the waiting is boring for him. He had duty last weekend so wwas stuck on base, but maybe this weekend he can explore the "campus" more -- esp the lakefront. He has duty July 4th weekend too, but hopefully the weekend after we can go to see him or he can come home by then! we'll see.
Tell Brandon HI and good luck in all his studies!!
Take Care,
Gloria

Thanks so much i will give to Brandon. His school starts today they have been having fun. He said they will start school at 7 and end at 4 but have to study for 3 hours each day and they have to study at school not back in their rooms until after 7 each night so he is in for long mental days. He has his cell phone now so I talk him just about everyday I am so glad. We are going to see him the weekend of 4th of july. You have no idea how glad I am boot is over... He has several friends leaving over the next couple of months so I will have a few mothers to help get through it. This website has been a GOD sent to me... Thanks again for everything..
