I'll be putting my bags together this weekend to get in the mail. I've been reading all the comments on N4M, although it's hard to stay caught up. Our youngest daughter's elementary school made homemade Christmas cards for my bags. I had just briefly mentioned what I was doing and today the music teacher handed me 100+ cards. I was blessed. I'm also adding candy canes, taffy, bubble gum, tootsie pops, granola bars and Starbucks VIA Instant Brew. My daughter who works at Starbucks mentioned to her manager what I was doing and she contacted Starbuck managers all around Austin. We have almost 300 instant coffee packs! I'm amazed.
I've asked a few people if helping with postage is possible so we'll see what I come with by the end of the week. Have you already packed your boxes. How many bags were you able to get into a box? Thanks for staying in touch! I haven't heard from my Matt for awhile. It's hard when they get so busy doing their jobs and with the time difference, a phone call is rare. I email all the time so, at least, he knows every day I'm thinking about him.
accept it I will be able to help you better.
Sorry to take so long in getting back to you.
Matt arrived on the Nimitz on Sept. 10. He was flown from San Diego and boarded the Nimitz in Singapore.
Yes, Matt was given a military email address that we use to write back and forth. Matt has his laptop but I think there are computers there that the sailors can use. On some of those episodes of "The Carrier" it shows sailors on computers. So I'm just assuming. Sorry I can't be more definite about that. If I remember right, did your Matt leave today?
Woops! This info is too late then. So sorry!
God Bless Matt in his travels to the Nimitz.
Yes, if his wireless is a card he inserts in his computer, that, I think, is paid for through the phone company. So when you call and ask for a "military suspend" both the phone service and wireless service should be suspended until the end of his deployment. Matt was given a military email so that is how we connect with him. Now another thing I just remembered. They do have phones on the ship and he has called. They're given phone cards with so much on it (from their accounts) to call. Matt has asked us to send him an international calling card. I haven't investigated that yet so I can't tell you much about that. Anyway, I hope all this helps.
About the Christmas stuff - this will be our first Christmas without Matt also. You have a great idea to get friends and family involved to make it special for your Matt.
