About me:
I'm a 39 y/o single mother of 4. My next to the oldest sod, Ed, was just activated & shipped out into boot camp as of Tues. The 7th of July . It's been hard after 18 years to just let him make this decision to join the Navy. I know that he has his head on straight, as he is a very intelligent young man. As for myself, I still have 2 youngsters @ home, and am eager to hear from my Ed & his progress~
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That He is Not as likely to be instantly shipped into Iran/Iraq like I thought~
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Believe me the time goes fast. We flew and it was really not in our budget! So I recommend saving what you can now!! Our weekend went by so fast and dreaded leaving him. My husband had to pry my arms off him! The weather was great except for a few showers. We took the train into Chicago that Saturday and caught a bus right outside the train station that took us to Navy Pier which was pretty cool. I just needed a few more days to take it all in!! Good luck on your trip it is once in a lifetime to witness that graduation!

Hi Heather! I"m so happy u finally heard from him. That first letter is great isn't it! Hector left me a comment on MySpace. He said he has been away. That he is doing good. I'm getting together a Care Package" for him and his crew/unit... I have never sent one. Got online so that I can get ideas of what to send. If you know anything about that, help me out here... LOL Talk to you later! Take care! My prayers go out to u and your fam. love, sandra

Hi Heather. I'm glad to hear from you. I know it's hard not knowing anything at all about how ur son is doing.... But when you get that first letter... It's the greatest thing! The first letter I got from my son made me cry... He already sounded so mature u know... The things he said to me on the letter were things he had really not said to me before. I too am a mom of 4 like you. Hector is my oldest. He has always been a good son. I've raised my kids on my own too. He was always like the man of the house. I still haven't heard from him.... I"m really worried. But I know he's doing his job. Like he told me the last time we text. He said..."mom... I love u but u have to understand I am a man now and am doing my job... I am a specialist in wat i do... and they know it and thats why I'm here. I SWEAR NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME... I SWEAR... : ' ( Heather... That first letter you get from your son will be the best thing ever. My prayers go out to u and your son too... Take care!!!!

Dear Heather,
You're very welcome. I just went through this last year myself. Boot Camp is pretty scary for us moms. The not knowing how our baby is doing.

It will get easier for you each day. By the time you receive the gradaution (PIR) package, you're at the half way point ( 4 th week)

I can't beleive it's a year already since I was in Chicago. That flew by. I was so hoping to get tickets for the Steve Wilkos TV show. I love that guy!! HAAH! Unfortuanately, it goes on vocation in June and July. I did get a free T-shirt though!! HAAH!!

Please don't hestitate to write. I am always around.
Take care and God bless.

Dear Heather,
How are you doing today? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
I see your son Ed just left for Boot Camp. He's fine and in good hands with the Navy.

I'll let you know what to expect. Sometime next week, you'll receive the box with Ed's ciivilin clothes in it. There's no letter in it, we all looked for ours! HAHA!

The second week, you'll recieve a form letter. On the back , is about two sentences from Ed. You'll have some relief seeing his handwritting.

Around the third week is your first long letter. Now, the return adress on this envelope is the one you write back to.

I do warn moms, sometimes that first letter is sad. Don't panic if it is. Once Ed gets into the rountine of Boot Camp and over being homesick, he will like Boot Camp. They all do beleive it or not.
You may also receive a phone call from Ed the following weekend, after the first letter.

The foruth week will be your graduation package.

It's the moms having nervous breakdowns! HAhA!
Please stay in touch with other Navy moms. I'm always around. Together, we will help you get through Boot Camp.....we haven't lost a mom yet! HAHAH!

Please don't hestitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Unfortunately, everyone doesn't get to make that 10 sec call to let you know they made it there. Did he take a calling card with him?
