Well Carrol, I don't think I would worry too much at this point. He may be a little adrift right now but he'll right himself. As for the lack of communication, I can tell you that his training right now is really intense. There is a lot to learn, ...

Profile Information

About me:
I'm a twice proud Navy mom. We live in western Washington near the Bangor Sub base. Our daughter signed up through the Delayed Enlistment Program in 1989 and reported to Basic Training in Orlando Florida the summer of 1990. My son and I flew to Orlando for her PIR which was a fantastic experience. We also visited her in Millington, TN while she was at A school. She actually lived in the same dorm and went to the same school as her father did in 1966. That was pretty cool. She went on to become at calibration technician at C school in San Diego, then spent the rest of her 4 year tour at NAS Lemoore. She left the Navy and has pursued a career in retail management. Our son, 4 years her junior, took his big sister's advice and applied to the Navy ROTC program. He was awarded a 4 year full ride and chose to go to college in Seattle so he could be close to home. Since his graduation and commissioning he has changed careers in the Navy. He is currently a helicopter pilot and is married with 2 children. They have lived in San Diego, Florida, then Texas, then San Diego again, Chesapeake VA, back to San Diego, and now back to Florida. He was previously assigned to the USS Tarawa, did a tour in IRAQ, and an IA in Afghanistan with NATO. 12 years down and 8 to go... I work for as a computer technician for a school district. My husband works for a transportation software developer in Seattle.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Officer
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
It can be a very rewarding career choice. It's a demanding life, though.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Goodmorning!
Thanks for getting back with me. No, I've never been to the northwest before. This will be a first for both my husband and I. The weather sounds wonderful for summer. Don't think I'd do too well through your winters though. I figured if we were going we better hurry up and plan something soon or we'd have to wait til next year. How ironic that you guys live up there yet your son lives down here and we live down here yet our son lives up there close to you!! We'll have to try and keep in touch.
Anyway, we definitely will spend a couple of days in Seattle. My son has already informed us :) And I would like to visit the "Pike's Place Market" you were talking about too, and the waterfront shops. I guess that's all in Seattle? It all sounds wonderful, thanks so much for the suggestions!!! I'm even more excieted now.
Hope you and your family have a great 4th this weekend!

Hi Helomom, Wow you been connected with the Navy in some way shape or form for awhile now. I saw you on Jacksonville FL Navy Mom's site. I'm from Jacksonville,FL, born and raised. My oldest son has been in a year last month. He's now stationed in Whidbey Island, WA........not far from you it sounds:) I not real crazy with him being so far away from home but that's just the way it is for now, I guess. He was suppose to attend C school in May but it was canceled so now he says he has to wait until January before he can finish. We're going to go up for a visit the end of August....can't wait!!! Do you have any suggestions of places or things to see and visit?

Are you going to F&F? You're probably used to them. I've never been. I was at Homecoming last June, tho.

He was on another project until most of the team was assigned other places. Now he's just biding his time until he exits. If he does. He changes his mind about every three months!

Hi Helomom, Wow, your son certainly has had an interesting career. My son has been been on the HST for over a year. I just wondered if you would be in VA next month because a number of us HST moms will be there. If you accept me as a friend I can pm you about it.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz.. What is your son/daughter doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat

Hey Helomom! I see you joined the HST group. Welcome!!
Are you going to visit your son/daughter soon? Maybe we'll be there at the same time. Hope to see you there.
My son is an Ensign in Supply. I'm going to take a wild guess that yours is a helicopter pilot, right?
