I read your comment and laughed. I have two children in the Navy and boot camp was the best thing that ever happened to them. One was lazy and one was just a disorganized slob. Needless to say, both have changed their ways. I have to admit I was v...

I lived in Ingleside for 2 years, about 9 years ago. I do know there are a couple of hotels there but there is no Navy hotel on the base. It is a very small base, and while there is a Navy Lodge on base in Corpus Christi, that is 35 miles away fro...

I also do smocking and heirloom sewing. I've been sewing for 33 years, got into quilting 10 years ago and am finding all kinds of ways I can include heirloom sewing and smocking into that as well. I have never tried Battenburg lace but I admit to ...

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley, has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim, an SH, has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz.. What is your son/daughter doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat

Hi Inchon Lady.
I just read to your comments regarding heirloom sewing and smocking. I guess I should have added my reply there, but I wanted to check out your page. I see you are from Virginia. Is Suffolk anywhere near Norfolk? My sailor son just moved there two days ago. He was doing A school in Pensacola and now is in Norfolk starting his job and eventually C school. Some day I'd like to go there and visit and then go site seeing in the area. Very historic! Just like heirloom sewing and smocking are old arts. I guess I like traditional and old things, sometimes. I'm from Texas.
This weekend is exciting because NavyforMoms has planned for many of us in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Texas area to attend a Texas Rangers baseball game on Monday, and we get to participate in the pre-game flag ceremony because it is Navy Day. Cool, huh! They sent us NavyforMom T-shirts and tickets, free. Big PR thing for Navy and NavyforMoms I guess. They've been advertising a lot around here. The game is against the New York Yankees and it is sold out. I haven't been to a Rangers or pro baseball game in at least 9 years, so it will be fun. I'll get to see some Moms I have met and gotten to know from this website and other get-togethers we've planned.
Get to know other Moms in the Virginia area. You will really enjoy that. I've been a member of this social networking group since November I think. I've made some friends and really enjoyed it. I sent you a friend invitation.
Are you a member of the Smocking Arts Guild of America? I am, Lone Star Smockers chapter.
Have a nice day.
