Profile Information

About me:
I am a mother to eight with a son in the Navy assigned to the USS New York-LPD 21, a son in the Army in Iraq, (tour ended thankfully in Dec 08) 2 more sons and 4 daughters.
Two daughters have married into the Army. I have 14 grandchildren, an 8 yr old and 2 1 yr olds, granddaughters and 11 grandsons. I have 2 more on the way. (NEWS: Daughter whose husband was deploying to Afganistan miscarried and he has been found medically unfit to deploy. Waiting to hear what that means now.) My Navy son is tenatively scheduled to go to Iraq as an IA in 2011. NEW UPDATE: My son n law did deploy to Afghanistan in April of this year. On 9-19-09 he completed his last mission and earned his wings. He was brought back to us on 9-25-09 on the day he was to arrive home for R & R. Two more of my boys are set to deploy in just a couple of months. Son n law (and his wife) deploying in Jan (my youngest daughter) just gave birth to my 14th grandchild (11 th grandson) Ethan Gregory Paul on 9-16-09, three days before we lost David.

I have a MA degree in Counseling and when we have big family get togethers my education comes in handly sometimes LOL

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The job he's interested in ......what part of the world it would take him into and how much i would have to worry about him. Since the loss of David ...the most important thing i have learned is: I have to give it all over to God and pray daily for all 3 of the remaining boys that i have involved in the military and be prepared to accept God's will for His plan for my boys. They are living their life to the fullest everyday doing what they think is important for themselves, their families and their country. It is in God's Hands!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
The Navy has a lot to offer

Thank you so much

Thank you so much for you kind words and prayers for our family. It has been a long, difficult 3 weeks however we are just taking it one day at a time. My daughter needed a little more help and took a few days "off" for a little assistance in handling her grief. We miss David each and every moment of every day. I we working on setting up an account for her and the children, but we have been keeping our heads above water and doing what has to be done each day. I have spoken to the manager at our… Continue

Officially off duty 9-19-09

Lost one of "my boys" in Afghanistan on Sept 19, 09. It came as quite a shock when my daughter called me soon after we got off the phone after talking for over an hour and i had just won him an MP3/MP4 player off Ebay to take back with him after R&R. His body finally made it back to us on the day he was to come home. He left behind his wife (my daughter) and six children.

Individual Augumentees

Has anyone heard of "Individual Augumentees"? I recently found out from my son that he may be being sent to Fort Jackson in South Carolina somewhere in 2010 for 3 weeks of infantry training to be a "sand sailor" and the possiblity of being deployed to Iraq in 2011. I had never heard of such a thing and he told me to google "individual augumentee....and i would learn all about it. Apparently the government has been using the Navy and Marines to fill in for the Army and Air Force since 9/11. I hav… Continue

Jan - I am from NY and had planned to visit the ship today but my knee is not working with me (surgery on Thurs torn meniscus). I was going to tape your son and have someone figure out how to get it to you or on N4M. Anyway, have someone on line today, Helene, another Mom from here and if you give me last name of your son I will call her so she can take pictures. She said the number of people to see the ship is not to be believed.
