Profile Information

About me:
Proud Mom of a daughter who is ICFN currently at Great Lakes. I'm a single mother of two wonderful daughters. I have a great boyfriend of 5+ years who has two children. I'm very proud to be a member of the Navy family. There is no more supportive group in the world in my opinion.

my facebook link is:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1679955332
I am here to support or represent my:
Brook
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Be patient and trust in the strength of your son or daughter. Learn from them and give them all the support that you can!!! They need it.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger

NEWS FLASH !!! Brook is ICFN. She is having a baby boy in January. I'm so glad she'll be staying at GL for a while, at least for some time after the baby is born.

Brook was able to come home for Thanksgiving 2009 for a short visit.

Updates:

I left for Great Lakes on January 3, Baby Gunner will be due the end of this week.  Excited !!!

Well,  Gunner held off until January 20, but finally came into the world yelling.  Had a couple small problems but nothing serious, and is a healthy little boy.  I was so lucky to be able to be at his birth, and so happy that my daughter wanted me there.  It was such an experience.  One I'll never forget.

July 2010 update:  Brook was restationed to Norfolk, VA  on the USS Nassau.  We got in the car after work and drove straight through, with short baby breaks.  Gunner did great the whole trip.  Her apartment was waiting, and furniture and other belongings arrived the next day, and we moved in.  Beautiful little home at Linkhorn Bay.

August 2010  Gunner flew home with me for 3 weeks, as Brook had a workup on the ship.  What a wonderful time with the little man.  So sad when I had to take him home, but a very happy Mom waiting for him!!!

December 2010:  Gunner and Brook flew home for Christmas!!!  So great to have them home.

January 2011:  Brook has new orders!!!  Now Petty Officer 3rd Class!!  Since the Nassau is being decomissioned, she will be on the USS Eisenhower.  March will see her in school for 2 months before going to her ship.  Guess What?  Gunner will be home with me for an extended time!!  Day care arranged and a very excited Grandma waiting.  Will be going to get him early March.

1-20-2011   HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY  GUNNER!!!

3-18-12   Wow does time go fast.  Brook is already re-enlisting !!!  Gunner was 2 on 1-20-12 and luckily he's back down in VA for a while with Mom, when she's not on the ship.  I'm taking the bus down after Easter and driving back with them, since she gets to go to school in Great Lakes for a couple months before rejoining her ship on deployment.  Guess what?  Grandma gets her little man again.  I couldn't be happier to get to spend more time with him while Mom's working on her ship, as I tell him.  I love them both so very much, and so very proud !!!

Dear Jan,

How have you been? I'm doing good. Me too, lost contact with so many moms here. Everyone just stopped writting.

So I found Facebook and got lost on FarmVille! HAHA!

Ok, we need update here. My last letter to you, we weren't grandmothers yet! HAHA!  SO tell my about your grandson!

How is he doing now?

I was there, up close and personel when my grandson Aiden was born. What an experiecne that was!! I was the first voice he heard, thanking God and Jesus! HAHA!

He was the most gorgeous thing I ever laid eyes on. Yet I look at those hospital pictures now, he was so swollen and beat up looking! HAHA!

He was born Jan. 12, 10 days after his due date. Kim came here for Aiden's first birthday.  He was already running, never mind walking! HAHA!

She comes back the first week of March again, but this time, I'm keeping Aiden.  This I do dread.  I'll have him a good 4-6 months. Kim is returning back to A School, this course is 3 months long, and you remember how long it takes before they get stationed some where.

I wish it was a normal situation, have him all day but go home to his mother at night.

Let me get going. Please don't hesitate to write.

Take care and God bless,

Barbara

Dear Jan,
Well congratulations grandma!! Isn't this exciting, I'm bursting over here!! HAHAHA!
Will this be your first grandbaby? This is mine, I can't wait!! According to the sonogram, we're expecting a boy also.

WHen in January is Brooke due? Kim's due date is Jan 2. I hope and pray my little guy does wait until New Years. December birthdays are horrible. Me and my oldest daughter are both December's.

Km was on the ship, but is now on shore in an office. From what she said, she'll be ashore for a year. I don't know what happens after that. I know she wants to return on the ship. The Navy is helping her find a place to live, and she'll be told of the day care.

As much as I'm already in love with my little guy, I don't plan to raise him!! I did my time with my three! HHA! I wouldn't mind having him though, in the summer months.
We have a beach, my older daughter and her girlfriend can teach him to swim. I'm sure he'll take after his parents! HAH! Kim's a fish in the water.

I know, if Kim does go back to the ship, there'll be times I'll have him, especialy when she deploys.
I joke about this. I'm disabled, and walk with either a cane or sometimes a walker on wheels. Picture me running down the block chasing a toddler! HAHA! I know the neighbors will have a good laugh! HAHA!

Let me get going. Please stay in touch.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Jan,
Hi, my name is Barbara. My daughter Kim is also a Sailor.
I just saw your video, "Proud to be an American". I always get tearied eyed when I hear that song. That song should always be sung along with the National Athmem! HAAH! That is such a powerful song.

Thank you for sharing that slide show with that song.

On the You Tube, one parent video taped their son's graduation and dubbed in that song. It was timed to what was being done in the video. I get chills and over whelmed with pride every time I watch that video with oor new Sailors marching in. The date of the graduation is June 13, 2008.

I hope to hear from you. I am a steady writter here with N4M.
Take care and God bless

Just reading your letter made me tear up!!! I thought of you all weekend that you were getting to spend time with your daughter. The phone has been silent this week so hopefully I get a letter in the next day or so. Yes I most certainly want to keep in touch. They have Battle Stations Sunday, October 5th so you know where my prayers will be. Will take to you later. Gena

Bridal shower on sunday for our 2nd daughter, the weekend after I take 17 kids on our camporee and then we go to see Bob. You will have to let me know every detail. Lots of love and kisses to Brooke

Dear Jan,
So your at the half way point now!! HAHA!! It goes faster once the first letter comes in.
You must have received the graduation package, or will soon. Make a reservation for the hotel has soon as you can. The package has a list of hotels.
My daughter Kim, I beleive has one more week of A School...HOORAY!! She was told that she's going to be put on HOLD. I wrote to another moms I knew her son had the same training, he too is on hold.
Infact, this mom wrote tonight, that her son and Kim know one another. I was so happy to hear that!!
Kim trained to read the radar, she's still in Chicago.
I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
Barbara
