"Ask his doctor if he'll fill the prescription. Doesn't matter if he's a provider or not, the Navy doesn't pay for contacts, only the exams. Glasses are the same way, you can get the free ugly ones, or you can purchase civilian…"
"My son has been in Yokosuka since February. The only problem he seems to need my help with is getting him a new supply of contact lenses. His eye doctor at home couldn't fill the prescription because Cory was due for an exam. He says he has had…"

I totally understand that it's important to learn self reliance in the Navy (you wouldn't survive without it) and how to gather your own information. Unfortunatly there are a lot of resources going unused because of the fact that…"
"Here's a link to an Online "welcome Aboard" Packet that one of the commands has put together. Much of the information is pretty universal for coming to Japan. Wish I knew about this when I came here.

"Japanese Cell Phone Companies

Yes they still do charter about one flight a week out of Seattle, WA (to my understanding) that's entirely military and dependants, I don't know if they also have them out of CA. As far as being better off as a civilian in a…"
I'm a late 20's Navy Wife. My husband has been in the Navy for nearly 14 years. I have only been a part of the military lifestyle for 2 1/2 years and it's been quite a ride!
My husband and I had an increadibly short courtship, so when we married, I didn't know anything about the military lifestyle or what resources were available to me or even how to contact my Ombudsman. After a year and a half of blundering through it all, I finally started to get it all figured out (I hope, lol). Because I don't want anyone to have to struggle the way I did, I recently took on the role of Command Ombudsman of my husband's command and hope to be able to be able to lend support here as well as learn the parental aspect of military life to better serve our Command family.
I am here to support or represent my:

LEARN YOUR RESOURCES!! If you don't know where to start, get ahold of your Sailor's Command's Fleet & Family Service Center. Any recruiter should be able to find the contact info for you if you have trouble.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
