About me:
I am a divorced mom of three children and my oldest just left yesterday, April 26 for boot camp. When I first filled this out I wasn't sure what to say other then my heart is breaking. I know this is the best thing for him and I am so very proud of Jason but right now I just hurt. I have a great picture of him being sworn in and he is already looking "grown-up" even tho he is 21. So if anyone has words of wisdom, please pass them on. Thanks.

Dear Joanne B., welcome to Sub Moms! Wow, what a handsome sailor you have! He looks like a really good boy too. I posted to you at the Sub Moms page, but thought you might check here first...

My son is a Nuke, has been in for a little over 3 years now, and serves in Bangor, WA aboard the USS Alabama (a boomer sub). Indeed, the patrols are three months each, but those are shorter than many of the fast attacks, it's easier on their personal lives, AND you can send and receive emails while they're away.

I'm kind of a "salty mom" around here and I've posted several blogs on my personal page that have good information for newbies. Feel free to browse! I think you'll find we're a nice bunch of folks, always ready to cheer or listen or just hand over the tissues, depending on the circumstance... Hugs! k.

Joanne, my son is graduating 7/31 he is in Div 937, we have 4 extra people comming with us (other than the 4 he put on the list), including his GF, his grandma. We realize they might not get in but we are willing to take our chance, I'm asking (if you know) what do they usually do if you are not one of the four on the list, do they have to wait until everyone is seated? is it best for ride the shuttle? Even if they don't get in we are praying he gets liberty than we can spend sometime with him....Thanks!

Hi Joanne- My son (Augie) was in Div 931 so I think he graduated the week before your son.But this past Tues was his first day of Sub school. What is Jason planning after sub school?

Joanne... He will be restricted to military issued clothing for a little while. They will have to "earn" their liberties from this point on.. Including how and when and where they can leave base. right now i don't believe he is even allowed to leave base during the week nor on weekends. He will move through the "liberty" colors and it is suggested that the discussion of these liberties to be kept through PM. Please accept my friends invite and I'll email you the exact liberty cards and their colors and their privlages that pertain to Groton! Thanks!

I'm sorry you are feeling sad today. I know how hard it is letting them be their own person after we have spent their lives with them all the time. Once he gets his phone you will be able to speak to him and know he is okay. I won't be able to visit on the weekends because the ride to Goose Creek, SC will be about 12 hrs or longer and to fly for a weekend would be too expensive. He said he will be graduating from A school on Nov. 6 and then will be able to come home for 2 weeks before he goes back for Power school. Gee, only another 4 months :0)

Hope you had a good trip home, too! It was a long and grueling ride home. It was very hard leaving but I was happy for the time I had with him. Lucas should be in SC by now. I'm hoping to hear from him soon.
