Just got home last night from Pensacola. THE NAS is very nice. The Barracks are really nice...feel better seeing where my son spends most of his time. We stayed at the DAYS INN on Pensacola Beach...$69 a night about a 10-15 min drive from the base...

Hello Carolyn, long time no talk! Sorry, it's been such a long time!
We are doing absolutey wonderful here in VA. Besides the weather and Aiden being sick, everything is perfect. Lestter is underway right now with his ship. His orders changed as soon as he checked in from USS Enterprise to USS Kearsarge! I'm glad Joey is doing well, can't wait to hear where he'll be heading :) Has he started his classes yet?

Hi Joesmom,
We went to Pensacola last weekend to be with our son. He also graduated Aug. 7th. He is due to finish A-school on Dec. 14th. My son is AS.

I don't know what your plans are when you are down there with your son, but I would highly recommend a few places that we went. We went Friday evening to eat at Lambert's in Foley, Alabama. It's only about 20 miles from P-cola and is well worth the drive. To avoid long lines, you need to get there before 5:00 because it's very popular. The aviation museum is awesome, right there on base and it's free! We went to Pensacola beach on Saturday afternoon and ate at the Crab Shack, right on the beach - delicous and amazing views! On Sunday, we drove to Mobile, just 45 miles away and toured the battleship, USS Alabama and the USS Drum submarine. Our son was in heaven while touring that ship. While he will only be on aircraft carriers, he really enjoyed being on the battleship tour. He said it was great to see the real thing and not just the simulations they have seen in boot camp and on base. We also went on Saturday night to the Pensacola dog racing track. That was a very fun night and we all had so much fun betting on the dogs! It's free admission and we just did $2 bets. I always picked the dog with the curliest tail or the cutest name. I actually won a few times! We have so many wonderful memories of last weekend spent with our son and I know you will have an amazing time with your son, too. Feel free to contact me if you need any more information about what we did while in Pensacola.

The link for the banner is:

I read about the banner on N4M but didn't order it till about 1 1/2 weeks ago so I paid a higher shipping price. If you have plenty of time you will not have to pay very much for shipping. The company that does them is making a certain number (like 1000 or so, can't remember) for free to military families. On the site there are several options. We got a 3' by 6' and all you pay is shipping. It's big and looked great this past weekend when we put it up.

Hi Carolyn,

I got your note but am a little confused -- my son, Jeff, is an Aviation Technician (he does calibrations on the jets and ship). He did attend A school in Pensacola following boot camp, and yes, he had to wait to class up (it seems Pensacola is always behind). I've heard of cases where depending on what school they were in, some sailors waited more than 6 months to start classes. Jeff was lucky, he was only there about 5 weeks before he started. When he graduated from A school, they sent him to another school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi for 5-6 months. He then reported to the USS Truman in Norfolk in late April. The first year is quite a ride, I know. I'm not sure how I'll handle his deployment (don't even have a date yet), but I know they'll be gone for at least 7 months, and probably through the holidays (which I'm very unhappy about), but what can you do? I'm learning to go with the flow. I don't know if I can be any help with your questions about your son's school, but please don't hesitate to ask!

hehehehehhe =) Been busy with Lestter all day... chatting online/texting/webcaming/calling each other! I don't even have time to eat or sleep LOL I love ittt! No complaints here!!!

We better KIT, I loved meeting you and Ollis over the weekend! Lestter said since they aren't in the same barracks, they don't see each other often =(

Hope everything is going well for you!!

I've been in contact with him everyday and he told me they are in different barracks. Les is in the Alpha and Ollis is in the Bravo.
