I'm in Everett, WA right now. We drove our sailor's truck to him. Is it cold here or am I just used to south Texas? You're right, Inga. Liberals have great kids. I have two of them myself. Thanks for the tip on the movie, mamadoc. I love foreign f...

We've stopped in Hermosa Beach on our way up to Everett to drop of sailor's car. HB is so dog friendly. Now the Quality Inn we stay at is accepting dogs. We're thinking about bringing the little cocker next time. I think she'd enjoy walking the st...

Pets really do remember people who live there even if they've been away. My cat, Ginger was so funny when my daughter came home from college the first time. She's so expressive, anyway, but she really looked as surprised as a cat can look when she...

I'm just finishing a book about a woman, who at age 7, went into hiding with her family in the sewer system of Lvov, Poland to escape the Nazis. If this is not a reason to call it "the holiday season" and the "holiday tree," I don't know what is. ...

Wow, is the creature as large as it looks??? It wouldn't get any argument from me. At the first hiss, I's be in the next county. You hang in there, Karen and do what you know is best and don't let anyone judge you for your decision. I've always le...

Comment by Joni (Greg's Mom) just now Delete Comment What's really bad, is the way people treat someone if they have an olive complexion. I was talking to a woman who grew up in San Antonio and everyone here knows, of course, that's she's a Latino...

The bash on Nov. 21 sounds fun. We'll only just be coming back from Washington that day, though. Promised sailor we'd bring him his van. I don't know which he's going to be happier to see: us or the van!

I forget the situation now as to why we took our 11-month old with FIV into the vet's while our other pets have died at home. He must have been suffering, but that was such an awful time, I've blocked it out. The animals we've let die at home have...

That's funny, Karen. I liked "Frost/Nixon." What I thought was weird was that none of the previews seemed to actually be in the movie???? We finished watching a BBC telly show (as they would say it) called "The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard" about a woma...

Thanks, Kelly. The leave always seems too short, no matter how long it is. Haven't seen the coatimundi or whatever it is again. Karen, that was a beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing.

Support when it counts

I've found, since my son has been in the Navy that there are people who say they support the military, but they really don't if it's an inconvenience to them. That was not the case today when I went to Verizon to suspend Gregory's account for six months while he's deployed. It really costs him a lot to keep a phone he can't even use at sea and they understood that, even though they could have refused and collected the money for nothing for half a year. I gave them his account information and the… Continue

We All Stand for Something

I'm going to Dallas for the SEALS event as a Navy for Moms volunteer. They're offering us free Rangers tickets. Aside from the fact that George W. Bush once had something to do with them, the only other thing I know about them comes from an incident a few years ago. My team, the St. Louis Cardinals, played the Rangers. They hardly ever do that because they're in different leagues.
Anyway, a big bruiser of a guy grabbed a fly ball away from a little boy when it landed near them in the stands. He… Continue

Love Between the Generations

Gregory went back on Sunday. I thought I heard his voice tonight, but it was just someone on TV in the next room. We spent the last few hours working on his iPod. He keeps all of his songs on my laptop, so I have more rap music than anyone else my age probably. Each generation has something uniquely their own, but he likes some of my music, too. Classic rock..
Gregory brought back his board. It's not a skateboard, I don't think, because it looks bigger than a skateboard. It makes me nervous, wha… Continue

Bumper Stickers

I've been googling, looking for Navy bumper stickers and I came to the Zazzle sight. They sell two categories of bumper stickers - military and Republican. I never thought of the military as partisan and I don't think all those soldiers who were eagerly reaching out their arms to shake hands with President Obama in Iraq think it is, either. It didn't look like a Republican rally to me.
I think the Republicans became more linked with the military during the Vietnam era. Generally, they were the h… Continue

A New Angel in Heaven Tonight

I feel real sad tonight after the news about the Los Angeles Angel pitcher who was killed by a drunk driver. Baseball can break your heart in more ways than one. My old wound has opened up again. It happened to us Cardinal fans before 9/11. I guess like a lot of people, that's how I think of time now - before and after 9/11. I was going to St. Louis for a children's bereavement conference. I was a facilitator then. I decided to take the kids with me.
The first shock happened in Denton when we st… Continue
