My daughter, Claire, was in the same situation as your son. She called very distraught. She, too, passed all of her physical requirements, except for the running. She too said that she would get to try one more time before graduation-otherwise, she won't be graduating ontime. She was crying and very upset. She said something about getting to do the PFA in Battlestations. Our hearts were breaking and we didn't know what to say or do to her, other than offer her all of our love and support. It was so hard to hear her on the phone, because she was upset and crying and not talking very loudly. I kept reassuring her that she could do it and to keep her chin up. I was strong while we were talking, but I felt as if I was being tormented. For this has been her lifelong dream and the thought that she is having all of this trouble is beyond my comprehension. Claire made a 99 on her ASVAB and tried so hard in BC. She did well in everything else and was been soooo upbeat until now. There is a happy ending to this story. She had a running partner who paced her throughout the run and her entire group came out to cheer her on. She redid her run and passed it with 13 seconds to spare. She did BS that night and had PIR the next morning. Don and I went to Great Lakes saying our prayers continually without knowing any of this. We had talked to the Ombudsman on the base and he and Claire called us after her run. Imagine both of their surprise when we told them we KNEW she could do it and we came because of our faith in that knowledge and that we were on Highway 137 right outside of the gate!!! Our daughter is now an ET on the USS George Washington deployed out of Yokosuka, Japan. We will keep your son in your prayers and lift him up. He needs prayers and support from everyone, as do you. Hang in there...be strong and positive for him. If he does not graduate, they will still let you see him and he'll continue to work out until he passes the run. Then he'll graduate that week if possible. They don't give up on these sailors who have a tough time passing. They have put too much time and money and attention in them to do that. Remind your son that he is worth all of this-that he has made it thru tough times before and will again. Tough times don't last, but tough people sure do. Please keep me posted.
