About me:
I am 40 years old and a mother to five children ages 11 yrs to 23 yrs. Our oldest son, Stephen is a Petty Officer 3rd in the Navy and our 3 youngest children are all involved in the US Naval Sea Cadet Program. Our oldest daughter is an artist and loves to paint and sketch. I have been married to the same wonderful man for 24 years. I am hoping to connect with others who have children in the Navy or in the Sea Cadet program.
I am here to support or represent my:
Stephen, Joshua, Micah & AnnaMarie
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted, In high school, Thinking about joining, Overseas
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I had to trust God to keep my children because he is the only one who can be with them wherever they go! I also learned to stand back and watch them as they grow into responsible, respectful men and women.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made
This is our Hearts and Stripes site that is also a military support site for all branches of the military.

Hey Karla, nice to hear from you. I haven't been very good about checking messages here. But I do try to every once in a while. It is such a great site. Where in Japan is your son? Mine is at Atsugi. He's with the airwing. You work in Trussville? Cool! I live in Clay, which is right next to Trussville. Small world isn't it!? We should get together for lunch or something!

HI Karla,

Sorry I haven't been on here most of the summer, been so busy!! I got the picture from one of the groups, they made it for me, for the life of me I can't remember whom...will have to think on that one.
How are you and how is your SAILOR? I just got back from the IKE on the family day cruise and loved it just like last year:)
Hugs to you and have an awesome day!!

Hi Karla, isn't Sea Cadet's an awsome experiance. In my daughters letter she spoke of her new uniforms and no longer needing to sew on Gold patches. She wanted to bring her dress blues and just change out the patches when she went to BC. Oh, well. I would encourage your daughter to join when she has the opportunity. Sandra

karla, i'm so sorry i missed your post. Savannah is actually my home town...where my parents are and I am living in Little Rock Arkansas. Gosh, I was in Savannah probably the same time you were. I hope you had a nice trip and enjoyed seeing your sailor. I'm kind of hit an miss here, but I'm going to try to do better. I have a myspace page, but really need to get to know "the navy" folks.
My son is at the Great Lakes, in A school. He thinks he will be there until late Oct. I haven't seen him since April at graduation. Really really miss him!!
take care Kim

Hi Karla
It's nice to meet you.
Where is your son stationed at? My son Brian is at Eglin Air Base in Florida. He is in the EOD program (explosives ordnance disposal) in other words he disarms bombs and anything that goes boom! Real scary stuff!!!!!!!!!!! He went to Great Lakes Feb 14th and after graduating in April he had extra training at Great Lakes until the middle of May then he went to Panama City, Florida for 9 weeks of dive training and July 18th he went to Eglin. He will be there for 42 weeks and then it's off to Fort Beining Ga for 3 weeks to learn how to jump out of airplanes, then it's off to California for 3 more weeks of repelling out of helicoptors and repelling down cliff sides. I pray everyday that he will be safe. He is just kinda of a dare devil always has been, he is making me old before my time. I would imagine when all said and done he will end up in Iraq. I know a lot of EOD guys are over there.
Brian has an 18yr old brother who will be joining the seabee's in 2 yrs. he is going to go to Jr college first. and 16 yr old sister who wants no part of the service.
Thats about it for the our family, aside from that it's possible I could end up with an unwanted daughter-inlaw next spring God forbid. what about your family?
Where do you live? We live in St. Louis, Mo
I will talk to you later.
Blessings to your family

Hey all I just wanted to let everyone know that we had a friends son Graduate from Bootcamp last summer and she gave me the name of the Hotel they stayed at. It is 4 miles from Base and they have a shuttle that will take you to base seems the Shuttle has priority and does not have to go through the long line of cars to get into base so getting in will be faster. My wife and I Booked our room already it is a 3 bed suite it come with 3 queen beds in one big room at the cost of $125.00 a nite plus tax and they are booking fast we made reservation from Aug 28 - 31 so here is the info DO NOT CALL RESERVATIONS BUT GO DIRECTLY THROUGH HOTEL FRONT DESK. make sure you inform them you are booking for Navy PIR Graduation. They also have Continental Breakfast. The reason we booked now its easier to cancel, if need be then to stress as the day gets closer.
