Karla - we are here to help and support one another! Questions are always fine with me :-) Each ship serves a specific purpose and is part of a larger mission, the Gridley will be part of the strike group that you found. They can travel together but can be many, many miles apart from each other but they are one group.

Karla - I bet you feel so much better just knowing the orders are done! Congrats to Ryan on getting first pick!

Hey Karla - hope all is well! I'm sure you enjoyed your time with Ryan, now that he is back at school has he gotten his orders yet? I suspect that will be soon. We just returned from vacation, it was nice having both of our kids together. Nick is still with us but our daughter had to return to school - summer is over for her! We still have a few more days with Nick.

Karla, good to hear from you. Tough decisions ahead - but I agree it would not be easy for Ryan to be in HI and see his son often. That is what makes their job really hard, it must give him much peace of mind to know that he is with you. There have been alot of Norfolk orders lately - I'll keep my fingers crossed for SanDiego if that is what Ryan would like. It is a beautiful area.

That is very scary news about his friend, how terrible for him. I cannot imagine going all the way to the end and then getting pulled due to a final...yikes. Ryan is training on computer systems (?) I think there are three or four different legs of Aegis but I don't know them all.

Nick is due home that first week of August but we all know it will go by too soon. He started days this week so that is a nice change for him, he's been on afternoon or mids since January.

Keep us posted........it is all happening TOO fast!

Ryan must be in the same duty section as Nick as he had it this weekend too. Nick still only does 8 day section though cause of Honor Guard.

Family is all good here, I think summer is going by too fast already!

Hey karla, hope all is well. We got to talk to our Sailor today, they changed how the duty section is done and now if you have duty on Saturdays...you have it Saturday and Sunday, similiar to GL. So I think one weekend a month they are on duty.

When do you expect Ryan to finish up there? I think we're still looking at mid August but no hint of orders as of yet.

Hey Karla - seen your note about the floor scrubbing, don't we just smile big when our sons tell us about their new "skills" !!!

Nick called and was happy, the section leader signed off on his leave chit for Memorial Day - he told Nick would be one of the few getting leave in his section as they just don't have that many folks there. He has not mentioned orders at all but he has at least a couple of months to go. He's in eight day duty section because of the Honor Guard program.

Ryan shared so much more with you Karla - Nick called yesterday, it was the middle of the day and he said he woke up to go to the bathroom and just wanted to say hello...he was on his way back to bed, he started his mids on Sunday evening and clearly has not adjusted yet. I have not asked him if he has heard anything about the holds as he has been half asleep on his last two calls! He did say, he was going to call either today or Saturday so I am curious what his class has been told but if he gets held up for 4 - 6 weeks because of the budget...what can you do? I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason. His class is one of those that will finish before Ryans...beginning of August. But I think everything will be okay for our boys. Sounds like a great weekend for you - we are seeing 80s the next few days here and I have been doing some spring cleaning...getting ready to paint, etc., I do have a brunch scheduled for tomorrow with the Navy moms in this area that I look forward to. Enjoy your grandson - chat with you soon!
PS...this time one year ago, I was waiting to see my sailor at GL...he PIRed a year ago!

How's your sailor doing? We got a call from our sleepyheaded sailor on Sunday evening. He was starting midnights that evening and had duty on Monday --- otherwise did not sound like much was new on his end.

While in Norfolk, I picked up a brochure on Naval Base Tours. Website is: www.navalbasecruises.com phone # 757-627-7406 It might be interesting $16 pp for a two hour cruise.
