Karol, I don't know if I'll be of much help. I don't know much about the area either. I stayed in a hotel in Chesapeake, and I felt really safe. Were are both from a little town in WV, and didn't want to live in a city as big as Norfolk. It is a little cheaper than VA Beach, and other areas. He's stationed at Norfolk Naval Station, but is currently on deployment, and won't return to December. Sorry I can't be of much help.

Karol,

I'm the Pastoral Care Director and the Senior Adult Pastor at Azalea Garden Church of God in Virginia Beach. I've been doing that for about six weeks now. Yvonne and I also have a military ministry house church that mets in our home Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon (definitely not "traditional"). Check out our profile page and see what we do. If your son or any of his friends get stationed here we would love to have him or them join us in our activities.

Karol--I am not sure how old you are exactly, but I assure you there are plenty of people about your age at the college I go to, returning to school for the first time in years!! But all of your teachers should give you syllabuses (syllabi?), I have never been to a class that didnt. And most opt to discuss the syllabus that day in class. I imagine it must be terrifying to return to school, but I assure you, it's really not so bad! It's much more laid back than high school. Are you going to a community college or a 4+ year school? The college I go to now is converting to a 4 year school but we still have the small class sizes of a 2 yr school, 25-35 students. It's really great because you get to know your prof & because of that you can give them warning before you leave. I am missing class to go to my fiance's PIR, and all of my teachers are completely fine with it :)
