Hi Kathy,

I think Adam should be done with his time off soon. Does that mean he will finally be on the boat? When is his first trip out to sea scheduled? I know he must be so anxious.

So, are you having a lot of people at your house for Thanksgiving? Does everyone get assigned something to make? I am getting so excited and now just a few more days to wait. My mother arrives Tuesday, Pete Wednesday and Allie and her husband on Thursday. She has a 10 year high school reunion on Friday so they are going to stay until Saturday morning. Pete and my mother are both going home on Monday morning. Now we have to get everything cleaned up around here before everyone arrives. We still haven't raked all our leaves but that is what we are going to work on until the gang arrives. Actually none of them will care but we like to get it done.

Pete is still sewing and has advanced to a tote bag and is trying to make some jeans. He finally broke down and bought a pattern but said reading the instructions was like trying to understand Chinese. I wish he was going to be home longer so I could give him some sewing lessons. This whole sewing thing really cracks me up.

Well, it is starting to warm up outside and the leaves are calling me. I just keep working on them and eventually I will get them done. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving together.

Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

I am glad you had a good time when you visited New Hampshire and didn't see the snow. We hiked Mt. Ascutney also a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. We went up the long way and it turned out to be a pretty rugged hike. We have been doing a lot of hiking in the White Mountains lately and I really enjoy it. I like to get outside and work hard and get my heart beating. I am glad we can still do it until it gets too cold or there is snow or ice on the trails.

Adam is getting so close to his first trip on the boat. I am sure he will like it. Most of it is attitude anyway and since he has a good attitude, I am sure he will do well. It is nice he and his brother get the chance to get together occasionally.

For some reason Boyd and I think this girlfriend is different from any of the others ones Pete has had. For some reason, she is very "special". He bought a sewing machine on Craig's list and made her some flannel pants. I guess she really loves them. I sew all the time so he feels he can make anything without a pattern or lessons. Apparently he did fine on the pants, he said he made himself a pair also. I asked him what his next project is.

Well, I hope you are feeling well and getting ready for the winter.

Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

So, did you come to New Hampshire last week-end and see our snow? Fortunately it didn't stick. We get in a big rush to get ready for winter when we get early snow like that. So, we washed and waxed our cars and cut and split wood and now it is nice again. It was so warm, we were under attack by the lady bugs. We have some painters here painting the outside of our barn so it is nice that they have the nice weather to finish to job.

It is hard to believe that in another week or so all of Adam's formal training will be done. Then when he gets on the boat he has to qualify and earn his dolphins. They flew Pete to meet his boat when he got on for the first time. Any chance they will do that for Adam? I am sure he is very anxious to actually get on the boat. Nice he got all moved in and pictures hung in his apartment. I guess they really do grow up and not need us so much.

Pete called and told me that he and his new girlfriend will both spend Thanksgiving with us. So, that means we all will be here. I am really looking forward to it. He seems pretty serious about this girl but they haven't known each other very long so who knows?

Happy belated birthday to you and Eddie. Hope you are doing well.

Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

Did you get to see Adam's apartment? How is it? Does he have any roommates? I know what you mean about the curtains and the wrong colors. I am impressed that he even got them hung.

We are developing the code about when the boat is coming or going. Pete will call and say they are leaving a month after his sister's birthday or something like that. As far as I know he always seems to know ahead of time how many days they will be gone. He tells us that ahead of time and then we can usually figure out when they will be back. Of course, sometimes plans change and I check with his friends to see if anyone has heard from him. Things may be different on a boomer because they are gone longer and they go into port during the trip.

Pete called to tell me he is coming home for Thanksgiving and his new girlfriend who lives in New Hampshire will be able to join us. I am excited about that. Now we will all get to meet her. You think you are a picky eater, she is a raw vegan so I will have to do some thinking to at least fix a couple of things that she will like. Actually I love the challenge.

Well, I have spent the day ripping out my garden since we got our first frost last night. I am a little sore from all the roto-tilling and digging. Nothing that a glass of wine and a good night's sleep won't cure.

Hope you are doing well.
Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

Did you come up here over the week-end? Sunday turned out to be pretty nice. We went up north today to go hiking in the mountains and there is still plenty of beautiful foliage. If you come up on the 17th, I don't think it will all be gone. Everything just looks so beautiful this time of year.

While Pete was home for his friend's wedding one of his other friends got him to start going to yoga. He really loved it! He got friendly with the yoga instructor and on the last day he was here she asked him if he wanted to go blueberry picking. He liked her but said sorry, I am going back to WA today. Since that time they have been emailing and talking and texting and last week she flew to WA to visit him. They both had the week off and they had a wonderful time. VERY INTERESTING! I can't wait to meet her. She went hiking with him and they went fishing and toured Seattle. Now I am really hoping he makes it home for Thanksgiving because then I am sure he will bring her to meet us.

It is so nice that Adam and his brother get together and go fishing. He is finally approaching his first sea tour. Then the big deal will be to get qualified. When is he finished at Sobic?

I hope you are enjoying the fall.
Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

It is hard to believe Adam is about to get settled in his apt with his assignment after all this time. They know the schedule for their boat way in advance unless something changes. He boat may be different until it has all the repairs completed. The thing is you have to see them in person to get the schedule because they can't tell you over the phone or by email. I think Pete goes out again some time in January for a few months. Of course it is different with a fast attack sub because there is only one crew and they are gone for longer periods of time.

Pete called a couple of days ago to tell us that he cut his head wakeboarding and needed 7 stitches but he is just fine. I feel so much safer when he is out to sea. He has been doing some serious hiking and really loves it. He usually tells us all about his journeys and sends us pictures of him on top of mountains.

We were north a little yesterday hiking and the foilage is just starting to get nice. The first week in October should be beautiful. Next week-end is the Deerfield Fair and it seems like half the world descends on this area then.

Well, I am hoping to see all my family for Thanksgiving but I don't know if Pete will get the time off or not. My daughter and her husband are driving up from NYC and my mother is coming from CA so that will be great. That is my favorite holiday anyway.

Enjoy this beautiful fall and we'll talk soon.
Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

Has Adam started moving into his apartment already? I didn't know they had t have it approved? It must be so much easier not to have to make a long trip to move all his stuff. So what is up with Michelle?

We have been busy since this nice cool weather came along. It is much more fun to go hiking or cycling when it is like this. We went to another wedding and that was a lot of fun. It was small and not too extravagant, just the way I like them.

I hope your end of the summer party went well. I always think of doing that but then when I figure out how much work it is, I can easily talk myself out of it. Well, we have been playing the last few days so I have to get some things done today. Talk to you soon.

Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

It sounds like Adam is going to get to come home pretty often now. That is great that Andrew got a job! I hope he likes it. Now that summer is officially over, we have to start thinking about all our fall activities like cutting wood and getting ready for winter. We are in the process of putting new siding on our barn and that is a pretty big job. The old stuff was starting to fall apart and it didn't make sense to paint it another time. We are so accustomed to our little routine, it will be nice when this job is completed.

Our daughter went to "survival camp" in Maine over the week-end and stopped and had dinner with us on the way home. It was good to see her. It seems funny for someone living in New York City to go to survival camp but she liked it. I think she really does enjoy getting back out in the woods once in a while.

I got an email from Pete today and he is hiking and it sounds like he is happy. He started going to yoga and he really enjoys that. He is determined to get strong and in good physical shape. I guess that can't hurt him. Well, time for me to start thinking about dinner. I caught a trout this morning so we will certainly have that for dinner tonight. My garden looks pretty tired and a lot of things are starting to die off.

Hope you are doing well. Take care,
Lynn

Hi Kathy,

I see you found some Toledo moms. That is nice when they are underway and you can share information with each other. I hope you had a good week-end at the Common Man. I love that restaurant. It was pretty nice except for Saturday and the huge storm.

Pete goes back to WA today and it was great to see him. The wedding was last Friday and it was very nice. It was fun to see all his friends all dressed up instead of ready for fishing. It is hard to believe they are really growing up and becoming responsible.

Last Tuesday was our anniversary and we always try to go hiking on that day so we climbed Sandwich Mountain and Pete went with us. That was a lot of fun. We went pretty slow for him but he was a good sport.

Last Friday we saw a bald eagle flying around our pond! What a big beautiful bird. I sure hope it comes back. We saw it a couple of days and then there was a troop of boy scouts camping here so they may have scared him off.

Hope you are doing well. Take care,
Lynn
