OBWife I am so sorry about your dog. I know my dogs are just like childen to me. One of my dogs is not well and there are days when I think this is "the day". It must be awful not having your husband there in person to lean on. I know he is there ...

I got my call on the 22nd too. It was so nice to hear Ryan's voice. He talked about making it rain and the gas chamber. Things we don't want to think about. He said neither were "that bad" I can't even imagine. These men and women are so strong. I...

I wore office attire and felt very comfortable....plus, I think my son was glad I wasn't in jeans and a t-shirt. This was his special day! A business pants suit and low pumps, I didn't have any problem climbing the bleachers.

I just went to my Daughters graduation. Small kids can wear jeans with a nice Polo shirt or a nice dress shirt. Many had Navy t-shirts on and some went dressed up and some went dressed down. Doesnt really matter. Just not like shorts and a tank to...

My son David left for Basic Training Aug 19th. I am suffering to say the least. When does he get to call home? Length of call? Is it monitored? Is graduation exactly 9 wks from departure? Thanks to any and all who can send info

It's just my opinion, but at my son's PIR I thought a lot of people were dressed too casually. I think it was disrespectful to our young men and women who worked so hard for this occasion for people to be wearing torn jeans and flip flops. I'd say...

Thank you ladies. I thought that was strange. My Ryan is wonderful at a lot of things but, relaying info is not one of them! He says in both letters he can only call landlines. It's underscored and with an exclamation at the end. He only has my ce...

How many guests exactly? PIR date Sept 3

Hi, does anyone one know how strict they Navy is on how many guest you can bring to PIR? In the paperwork sent in the first letter up it says up to four guests. My husband and I are going with our two younger sons. My husbands parents are also planning on going. That would only make 6. Before we make too many arrangements, I would love to hear from moms or dads that have been through this process before. Of course we can't bring the entire family but, is there any budging room?? All advice is ap… Continue

Ryan's Box

Yesterday I asked my boys if any mail had come. One of them looked down and said that "Ryan's Box" had come. He said he had put it away so I wouldn't be sad. He brought the box to me I traced the writing on it where he had put my name and address. I slowly opened it. The first thing I saw was his backpack. I methodically went through it looking for any sign of commuication. I was looking for my letter. I found his Navy address book we had carefully filled out. In it was the card I had given him… Continue

Day Four

It's been four days. I have written four letters. I miss him terribley. His dad my family have all gone on with business as usual. I go back to work tomorrow. I took the week off to spend with Ryan and I knew this was going to be a tough transition. My husband thought I should pull myself together by the end of day ONE. I did get out of bed Saturday and stayed out of bed today too. I'm trying to be a good mom to my twins. They are amazing. Thank God they are 14 and can feed themselves. The first… Continue

Hi Kirsty,
I have only received (1) letter jrom Jordan. I have sent several others and hope for another this week. It's been really hard. We haven't had a phone call other than the one that should have come the night he got there and didn't come until Monday morning. Had my car not been dead in the garage as I was waiting for towing I wouldn't have been home to receive his call - something good out of something bad that morning! My son also left 7/9. I asked Jordan if he knew anywone but he said he didn't and as most boys don't he didn't elaborate. I wonder if your son was one of the recruits that was picked up that morning along with Jordan? I find this website more informative than anything so far. I don't travel much so this trip is very intimidating to me. My son is also 18 but turns 19 in September - hard to imagine a birthday we won't be present for :( I don't believe my son will be a grad n go because he's going to A school in GL. I plan to spen at least through Saturday there however I'm going to fly onto Detroit to spend some time with family and due to time constraints and $$ I'll have to have to leave then. Please keep me posted and I hope you both get a letter and phone call from your son soon!

I guess maybe Chris and the rest of the guys got there when they finally formed the division so his BC stay is all of 8 weeks. Had he left at the end of the week Im sure he would have been graduating on Sept 11 and I could have gone. I sure do miss my little guy a lot. I keep checking the mailbox for a letter from him, but nothing other than that form letter. I mailed all my stuff out yesterday. Chris is Ship 14/Div 310.

Hi Kirsty, my son got to GL on July 13th and I got to talk to him today! It was great to hear his voice. he said hes having a great time and its not very hard. He also stated that he had not started PT yet, that comes this coming week. He was told to write a PIR date of Sept 3 on his form letter, but if your son got there July 9th then how is my sons date the same as yours? Shouldnt his be Sept 11

Thank you all for the welcomes. My son Ryan left for bootcamp this morning. Right now the hurt in my heart is unbearable. His recruiter picked him up this morning at 5am his flight leaves later this afternoon. I have asked him if we can come spend time with him at the airport until his flight leaves buy, everytime we here each others voice we cry. We are very close. Ryan was in the delayed entry program. He is in the AO program. He is my oldest son. I miss him so much already.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What will your son/daughter be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your recruit. Pat
