Pie update

ok oh my! my little pies were so cute! I have these muffin tins that belonged to my grandma and they are flat kind of like tart pans, little. I cut the pie crust to fit and made peach and berry, the tops in fitted on and made a cute little edge. They were kind of fun. So my Navy son, Pete, has clothes here so i packed the little pies in a box wrapped them well with saran wrap and packed his clothes around them. Sooo he did not get his mail today so we will see on Monday how they arrived. He want… Continue

Hi Leanne, From one WA island Navy mom to another. Our lights flicker most nights lately and the rain, oh my. I am hoping the snow stays away this Christmas time. Last year was bad.

Tell me about your sailor.

Mine is just 21, just finished Prototype and will be reporting to the Stennis on 12/16.

My son just bought his plane ticket to fly home at Christmas. He passed along some great advice I will pass along too. He paid the extra 25 bucks for insurance in case he had to cancel--you know, Nukes never know what they are doing--- He checked the airline prices a few days later and the price had dropped by $250!! So, for $25 he was able to rebook his flight and save a ton of money. the moral of the story is...sometimes insurance is good.

Yeah--my sailor called and they know each other! He said your son could pick him up like a sack of potatoes!

I'm deleting your last message, since your son's real name is in it. But, I wrote it down and will check with my son.
What have you heard about time off after prototype graduation? I seem to hear conflicting information.

Hey LeAnne :) I have actually never used Simply Delicious, but a lot of Nuke Moms swear by it! Their number is (843) 821-0101. From what the moms say, they call and give the chef the recipe, the chefs make it, and it gets delivered to their Sailor on base. I've never read a complaint about them... only good things! :)

Hi LeAnne, glad to hear your had a great time in Charleston. I'm so glad that you love your new daughter-in-law. See, I told you that you would. Gotta figure that your son was raised well, and knows how to choose well. Congratulations! I'm getting ready now to go down there for Thanksgiving. Can't believe it's just 4 weeks away. We're really looking forward to it. Zach has told us that there's an Irish Pub with a live folk band playing the night before thanksgiving, and he wants to take us there. Wish I was 20 years younger so I'd have more energy, but can't wait to go, even if it will be right after driving 15 hours, and knowing I have to get up early the next morning to start cooking. It'll be worth every tired moment! : )

Hi LeAnne,
Have a great time in GC this weekend! You'll really enjoy it there. I'm sure evreything will be just fine, and your daughter in law will survive the initial meeting!! We had a similar weekend, my oldest daughter came home for a week-end long visit with her boy friend so that we could get to know him better . I know he was pretty nervous in the beginning, but I think as the weekend progressed, he relaxed and we all had fun. There has been no engagement announcement yet, but I know that this weekend was a bit of a precursor to that...we've never had such a "formal" meeting with any previous boyfriends! :) Again, have a great time this weekend with your son and new daughter in law!

Happy Birthday to your daughter, and I sure hope she adjusts more quickly than Emma. It is SO hard to not just drive up there and bring her home, but I know that if she can just connect with one person, or teacher, or whatever, she will be glad she stuck it out and stayed. We're keeping our fingers and toes crossed. On a lighter note, she called home late last night, and I said I'd have to call her back today, couldn't talk then, because our dog had just gotten skunked in the back yard and then of course ran into the house. She thought it was SO funny, and told me she was so glad she wasn't home! (hmm...so THAT's what it takes???) So today, I'm dealing with skunk stink (I thought I knew what they smelled like, but we'd never been actively "skunked" before. OhMY GOSH!!!) and am out to buy cleaning supplies because although we covered the dog with a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda paste, and now she smells fine, the odor is just everywhere in the house and I understand the only thing to do is to wash everything from the ceiling down with bleach. Not looking forward to the work, and this is my busiest week of the year at work, but I've no choice but to try to get this taken care of! Hope you're having a MUCH better day than me! : )

Hi LeAnne. I see you've found the nuke mom site. Glad to see you there, you'll like it. How is your youngest doing being away at school? Emma, my youngest, has been there for 4 weeks now, and very homesick. I thought in the last week or so, it was getting much better, but last night she called sobbing and asking us to bring her home. It's been really hard on both of us, especially because we thought she was the child who was going to go off and never have a glance back. We really thought she was the best prepared of our 3, but maybe we're wrong. Luckily, her older sister is at the same university working on her masters, so I will have her check in with Emma today and see how things are going. It's hard to be so far away.
