We're planning the get together for: Saturday, Oct. 10 at Elm St. Park in Greenville, from 2-until dark. If you can, just bring a dish to share. The Park is near ECU, on Elm St. between 10th and 14th streets. Looking forward to seeing you. Tammy

Hey Lee's mom,
I'm trying to plan a meet, greet, and eat right here in Eastern NC for us Navy moms. Maybe in October. Please respond if you'd be interested in getting together with other ENC Navy Moms. Thanks, Tammy Song

Hi LeeMom - The Nuke program has been great so far for my son Nate. He is very bright, but was not that challenged in High School, and did not get great grades. He scored well on the ASVAB and then took the Nuke test and did well.
So.. he left for boot camp just after he graduated from High school and has been in for just about 3 years. After boot camp they go to Charleston SC for A school, or rating school. This lasts around 6 months. My son ended up being the "honorsman" in his A school, which means he had the highest GPA. This from a kid that used to sleep in class in high school! The living conditions are really nice, and they can have their own computers, tv, etc and they can have a car after the first couple of "Phases" they go thru. Next is Power School - this is more intense than A School as far as the work load and the required study time. Again, this lasts approx 6 months. There is a graduation after A school and another after Power School. We chose to attend the Power School graduation because we were told it was the bigger of the 2, and we were glad we didn't miss it. After Power school, they go on to Prototype training, another 6 months. This is either done in Charleston or in Ballston Spa NY, which is where our son went. This is basically hands on training for everything they have learned so far. There is a prototype graduation ceremony, but I don't thing most people attend since it is very small and quick. Near the end of Prototype the guys usually find out their ship assignment and their first duty station. Wow, I'm really rambling on - just one more thing - they usually do get some time off between the 3 phases of school. My son is an EM, the other rates (ET, MM) may have a slightly different time schedule, but it basically takes 2 years between boot camp and completion of their training before they are assigned to a ship or sub. Hope this helps - sorry to be so longwinded. Best of luck to your son.
