You never know what "the kids" may decide. My oldest got married on a beach in Florida. That was a bit of a shock as I could not make it financially. All the expenses would have been way too much. Are you going to try to make it to the Meet and Gr...

Wendy, Congrats! I'll bet Jim was really surprised. That will be a memorable Halloween for Jim and his friends. What did you and Jim dress as? Has Jim and his fiance set any kind of wedding date? Hopefully it will be somewhere close enough that mo...

Mary, I would like to join in on this Meet and Greet. I was able to be present for one at the Holiday Inn about a year ago and it was so nice to meet and talk with so many Navy family members. It had several husbands and wives. The stories we all...

Thank you everyone for your sympathies. It was a tough time but things are getting better. The reaction my husband had to his medication is getting much better as well. The concern and support has been great and makes it so much easier to handle. ...

He is doing fine. Unfortunately, he wasn't real close to her. He is one of the executors and will have to deal with their possessions and house. That will take some time. Thank you for the sympathy. It is always hard to go through.

Hi Everyone, It has been a while since I have been on but have kept up with the conversations. I lost my mother-in-law a couple of weeks ago and my husband had a reaction to an antibiotic he was taking. He broke out with a rash all over his body a...

Amanda, Time really does go by fast! That is what I told Shawn when he told us he was going into the Navy. I have tried to encourage him to stay in the full 20 years. Those years will go by fast too. He has said a couple of times that he may go fo...

Profile Information

About me:
I am the mother of three grown children. My youngest son is in the US Navy. I work full-time and look forward to retiring but it is still a ways away. I always look forward to hearing from my son and hearing his stories. His father, who I was married to for almost 24 years, was in the US Marines. I lost him to cancer in 1999.

Yes, I am on the Lakeville/Farmington border just off of Pilot Knob Road. I have only been to the west coast once and it was to Portland, OR about 8 years ago. Talk about a beautiful area! You can see the mountains, beautiful gorges, breathtaking waterfalls and the peaceful ocean all at the same time. I am suppose to hear from Shawn later tonight when he gets settled. He didn't know is address or whether he would be Bangor or Bremerton. I guess his chief is the only one that could tell him and he will find out when he gets there. I guess the Marines and Navy must work pretty closely since Matt is in the Marine Battalion Security or does that mean marine as in ocean? This is all so new to me and I get very little information from Shawn. It will be even worse now as it is all top secret and high security. We'll have to keep in touch.

It would be great! I don't know much more than you, Linda. I don't even have Matt's address I don't think...hmmm...
He is doing fine in the Marine Battalion Security. He misses his girlfriend and the ability to up and visit her. He calls home about 5 days a week. :) I'm soaking it in cuz I am not sure where he will be called to next.
Again, you live Farmington?

Hope everything went well with your mother's surgery, so it has taken me so long to get back to you. Ended up having two of the boys home for 7 days together, as my husband's grandmother passed away on April 18, Corey was suppose to report back to Mayport on the 20th but ended up staying 4 extra days so that he could attend the funeral, my other son came home from PA also so the two of them got to spend some time together so that was nice. To bad it had to be for that. She was 96 and we all know that she is much happier now. We will have to get together for sure this summer, sounds like might have another meet and greet in the cities, but with the economy do not know if I will be able to make that one. Maybe between the two of us we could get something going down this way - what do you thing - I know we have a few people down this way I have someone on my list that is from Lake City

Linda - you might enjoy the Sub Moms group. There's lots of information there. I learned that the guys can receive and send emails only when they com close enough to the surface to receive the signals, which isn't very often. Any emails which have photos or attachments are sent back to you - at least you know that someone is getting them! All of the moms there talk about not hearing from their sons - sometimes as long as a month without a message. Hang in there my friend.

Hi Linda,
both Chad and his twin brother Jason, went into the Navy together in 1989. Jason got out after 11 yrs. and Chad is still in. because he made Warrant Officer he plans on staying in for at least 25+...he had to "re up" after his promotion.. but he really loves what he is doing. Not good for families however,, very hard on wives and children.. but he makes unbelievable money.... something like 150k a yr... not like the couple of hundred that his Dad made during Viet Nam....
His Dad was in the 1st Infantry Division in the Army and wounded 4 times... yuk
anywho,,,, thanks for writing . It's always nice to hear from people back home..
write again

Called her cell phone, did not get a answer left a message, have not heard anything back. Glad to hear that your son is doing well, we had a nice two weeks with Nathan, he is not back in Afghanistan, will be going to Florida in a few weeks to welcome home another one. Really looking forward to that trip. It will be a fast one as he will be riding home with us.
