I think part of the ease of friendship is that we are all moms going through the military experience together. I think part of it is that we're Texas gals hon - we KNOW how to be sweet and friendly - it's how we were raised. More than anything, I think its being able to see pictures and look back at someone who reminds you a little bit of yourself and who's sailor makes you smile and feel a little bit closer to your own. I hope your son gets to get home after Christmas - that's how it happened for Danny last year - he got here on the 28th...and found Christmas waited for him!!! And you can just BET that I will be up in Austin soon...my baby girl (my sweetie's 3 year old granddaughter whom I'be decided is MINE) lives up there and I can't stay away from that little angel for too long! When I get a plan for a trip, I will PM you to see if you have some time!
Have a good night, my friend!!!

Good morning Linda - thanks for your sweet words on the other page. I think she probably didn't even really THINK about what she said, and I might have been overly sensitive. It's just that sometimes I think that no one understands moms of "onlies" like other moms of 'em! Anyway, you have a great day my friend and I hope things are going well up there in Austin-town!!!

6'7"?!?! Wow - and I thought Danny was tall at 6'2" (I'm 5'5-1/2"). lol
I think this deployment has been a great thing for Danny for a lot of reasons...he sounds so mature and so focused, but I still get a LOT of I love you momma's whenever we e-mail. He has decided to call me his biggest fan (gee, didn't he already know that one), and he says my care packages and cards NEVER cease to amaze everyone around him and they ALL look forward to seeing what did Stix's mom put in this time!!! I love this site and getting to meet great people like you! By the way, we have family in Austin, so maybe one day we could meet for coffee somewhere! Talk to ya later - it's football time!!!

Aww Linda, you don't ever have to apologize to me! I love to hear stories of other moms and their sailors. What does your sailor do for the Navy? Danny is an aviation technician assigned to a squadron responsible for the E2C's. He has had plane captain since his deployment (for which he is very excited because now his name gets to go on the plane right below the pilot's) and he's working hard for his EAWS. He is actually enjoying his deployment, except he sounds really tired. I was bummed that he didn't get to take part in any of TR's Halloween festivities Friday night; he said the squadron was too busy.
Either you are a very petite woman, or Brian is a VERY tall sailor!!! How'd he like the ceiling height onboard ship? Danny keeps bumping his head - one time he konked it really good...says all the tall guys have to walk around hunched over all the time...not too comfortable.
I am probably going too far with the care packages - and driving myself to the poorhouse at the same time. But I can't help it - he's my only child and I am going nuts with him so far away, so the packages are how I keep myself sane! It's hard when they 'fall in love (or lust)' with someone on base and they pull away from mom. Believe me, I know that one all too well. But when all is said and done, they still come back to mom when they REALLY need some advice, help or unconditional love. I am sure Brian knows where the most loyal person in his world is; she's waiting at home in Austin for him! Give him an extra hug for me when you see him over the holidays...I just am going to HAVE to find someone to hug until Danny comes home!!!

Linda, My fellow Texan and Emptynester
I viewed your website and you have a beautiful sailor and girlfriend. I loved to see the way you and Stephanie can share your thoughts. Letting go my dear, continues to be work in progress. But we never really let go...
Where is your sailor now? My sailor has been issued order to Virgina Beach, alittle closer to Texas. But not close enough....
Where did our little boys go? All grown up and in the Navy. Like politely twisted stated, it's a double whammy. A year later and I am still the biggest mama baby out there. He would die if he knew I posted this...
But it's true! I have tried everything from working like a horse, eating, reading, then, scrapbooking ( That's wonderful- but I boo hooed for I have 20 years to catch up on) ....I found some fall projects to keep me going but I need to have a end result to bring some happiness. So now I am embroiderying, I have not done that since I was 10 years old...35 years later. The things we do to keep my mind from going crazy. Thank you for understanding for I thought, it was only me. I just got news he will come home for the holidays. So I am going to start early...ha! No really!
I hope you find peace, it will come! Now that boot camp is over.
Feel free to write...happy fall ya'll .. Yvette

Hi back LindaJ. Thanks for the comment. I'm new to the site as well but am affiliated with the Navy in just about every way imaginable so it's not really new to me. Connecting with other moms of a sailor is though and being an empty-nester is new as well. I hope you have a great day.

Hi Linda,
Love your page! Thanks for leaving me a comment. My sense of humor is a bit off so I hope I don't offend anyone. If my outlook helps even one other mom feel less lonely through their ordeal of a child joining the military, then I am comforted. I think for woman with only one child, we are hit with a double whammy. The military and the emptynest in one fell swoop. It's a shock to the system for sure and I wish they made a pill for it, not unlike Midol. LOL I am so glad I found this site and others that can relate. Chat me up anytime.

Hi Linda
I just found this website 2 days ago-yeah isn't it great! I'm so excited about the tiger. My daughter and I are both counting the days. It's too bad you didn't get to go, but at least your husband did. I'm lucky, I saw my daughter in May. Take care, Sheryl
