Hi Tammy, I heard from my son on Friday. He sounded good, said they were really busy. He did say they will be out longer but of course couldn't give much info. Were you planning on going to Homecoming and if so, did you keep your travel arrangements…

Hi Linda, well the U.S.S. Memphis is off and running. This is my son's first deployment but he is going through a rough divorce and it was so hard for him to leave his little girl. She is 3. Her and her mom live her in San Antonio, TX so Justin hasnt seen them in about a couple of months. I dont know about the phone tree. But I do get the newsletter. The half waynight boxes are for the Sailors to celebrate there halfway mark through deployment. EVERY Sailor will get one. The company that I work for collected ALOT of stuff from candy to letters and everything else for the Sailors boxes. Which is great! If i hear anything I will let you know. My sons name is Justin Thompson and I have another son Jeramy Thompson on the U.S.S. Milius which is a destroyer and he is on deployment now out in Dubai off the coast of Somalia, he has been on deployment since Jan he will be home sometime in July. So it is DOUBLE hard for me. I just have to pray everyday for them and all the Sailors out their. Talk to you later.

Hi Linda,
I saw your post on sub moms and just wanted to add some suggestions from my own experience. My son has been at Groton since May. October 10 is a long weekend with will be nice for you and your son. Just remember to make reservations early because New England is crazy in the fall!
Connecticut is beautiful. Don't miss the sub museum and Mystic Seaport is really nice. Tons of great restraurants in the area.
The best airport is Providence. But if you fly into Boston you could spend time there if you have never been. Providence to Groton is about 1 1/4 hours, Boston to Groton about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. If you need any other help please ask. Also if you are gamblers, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos are only about a half hour from base. Wendy from NH

Linda, are you kidding me? That is division Casey is in. I have been searching for someone with a child in the same division. What is your son's name? Where will he be going after bootcamp?

Welcome to NFM!
How are you? I hope all is going well for you and you are looking forward to boot camp graduation! As times moves forward you will find that the not knowing will turn into pure excitement! You are at the beginning of a wonderful journey that will be full of a gambit of emotions. My experience has been outstanding. The ladies on the site are some of the best this country has! I have had the great pleasure of meeting a few! There is a connection between all of us that has turned into a very strong bond. I hope that you as you go through your roller coaster ride you can count on the masses to provide you with love and continued support!

Take care,
Kimberly

Hello linda and a big N4M welcome to you.
Ohhhh Sister you are week one in boot camp, alright only 7 to go. You can do this standing on your head...... seems like such a long time, but by week 7 you are going to wonder where the time went. This place and these wonderful ladies here are great support. We understand the Im scared, feel like crying, when is this going to end feelings. We have all been there, boy did I cry and worry about my baby boy. Then when graduation comes....you see this man. And that is really when the tears hit, you are so proud of your sailor. And better then that HE is so proud of himself. I recommend going to PIR (graduation) if possible. But as for now.... write letter after letter to him, trust me they love letters from home. If you need to talk or have questions I am here for you...along with everyone else :)

Hi Linda, welcome to Navy4mom's, I've been on this site for a while also, and so fortunate to have found these wonderful mom's and some dad's too. This is a great place to be especially the your first few weeks which are the hardest or they were for me. I found myself crying and laughing in front of this computer, which by the way, I never got on until my son left for Boot Camp. So feel free to ask what ever you like someone always knows the answer or will work hard at finding out. Take care, Frieda
