Hi Linn, If you talk to Kristina, Danielle will be performing on the USS Blue Ridge this Friday morning - so if Kristina is around, Danielle will be the one with the piccolo :) She'd like to meet her.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Linn. I really appreciate your support. I feel like all I have is you Navy moms. This is all so new to us since no one in the family has been in the military. We went out to lunch as a family to celebrate his birthday even though he wasn't there. I will feel better when I hear from him since he didn't call on Sunday. I send you a hug too. Having your daughter in Japan is incredible. How do you get used to that?

Hi Linn, I think my aunt Jan and your daughter's grandmother go to Curves together in Holt - my daughter Danielle is over in Yokosuka too and has been there since the end of April. Maybe they'll see each other on the USS Blue Ridge. Danielle is a musician so she will be on the USS Blue Ridge when they tour - she is only one of two females in the Far East Edition Band. I live in Olivet, just the other side of Charlotte. Danielle used to perform with the Mid-Michigan Youth Symphony and went to the Holt schools for practices and performances. Hope your daughter is getting settled in Japan. Danielle said it took her a few weeks to get used to the sleeping/time difference. We usually Skype a couple times of day if we are both near a computer. She keeps a local cell for just calls around base and with Skype, she set up an account that lets her buy an "Olivet" number so I can call that and leave her messages if I miss her on Skype. It was less than $100 for the year and she has unlimited calls to the states and it's not much to call her boyfriend who is stationed with the band in Italy. It also allows her to call her grandparents home phone (no computer at their house). She just logs into Skype on her computer and calls their house. Kathy

It'll be ok... I'm sure she'll adjust just fine. And if she goes at this with an adventurous spirit; she'll have a ball.... I know Jonis is.... Tell her not just to stay on the base... Japan has a lot to offer & to see & experience.

Thanks for all the info. Change of Command. From the title I get the jest of what this is, but what exactly and is the time on Wed. nite or Thursday day.
I heard there is a run in the wee hours of the morn. For now, I cannot run, but our daughter and his girlfriend plan to run, can my husband and I go and meet and take some pictures? My husband laughed when I told him of this event and he said the class would be leaving him and I at the starting line. We are walkers, but no longer runners. We got the phone call and it is "a go" for 28/29 May so flights are made, both back to USA and then from our home in MI to RI. I am so excited and my colleagues are all excited for me as I tell them.. I got to talk to my son for 5 or 10 minutes and yep, I told them i will be away for 2 weeks. Of course I will miss one of their weddings which is suppose to be a really neat cultural event, but he understands that family comes first. Also, my colleagues in the states are very supportive of the trip (of course it is from my pocketbook) but no blinking of the eyes when I moved dates out to later June/July for things I am in charge of. They all understand teh importance of our military people. Also, a huge thank you to you for all your openness and assistance to all of us about what is going on. For so many of us this is our first "military" experience and the lingo, acronyms, what happens is just not what we are familiar with in the outside world

Hi Linn! Yes, I got L's formal pictures the other day and they brought tears to my eyes...and down my face! What a feeling of pride looking at them. I just got back from Cleveland (was there on business) and took my pictures to show everyone on my team. I can't stop showing them to everyone. What a thoughtful Mother's Day gift from K. I forwarded on the email address to L. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the day! Nancy
