The Navy has a new Petty Officer

Posted on November 19, 2008 at 11:12pm 8 Comments

I got a wonderful call from my son tonight. He was supposed to test for his promotion in March but was told a couple of months ago that he could test early. So with only a few days to study (and no books), he borrowed some books and took the test. Afterwards he said he wasn't sure how he did. I told him to remember he didn't get much notice and if he didn't pass, he could always try again in March. But pass he did and is now Petty Officer 3rd Class. I'm so proud of him.

Christmas without my sailor.

All I want for Christmas...how often have we finished that sentence with a selfish request. All I want for Christmas is a new washer, a big screen tv, new clothes, jewelry, my sailor home. It's not meant to be again this year. When he called Friday he said "Mom, we won't be home for Christmas, Kandas's leave was denied so I cancelled mine." "I understand, I said, we will just leave the decorations up again for as long as it takes and celebrate Christmas when you get here." We talked… Continue

DEP moms

I've read so many blogs about "the box" and just thought of something that might help moms with children in DEP. Before your child leaves for boot camp, how about asking them to write you a note to include in the box when they send it home. Those 3 little lines that come with the form letter we get in the beginning are so precious. We all live for their letters when they are in boot camp. If they could send a note with the box, it wouldn't feel so final and impersonal. If they place the note in… Continue

I have a new Navy daughter!

Posted on July 18, 2008 at 9:08pm 12 Comments

What a wonderful end to a week that started out so bad. First there was the funeral of my brother-in-law then a desperate phone call from my son. I had sent him a package with his birth certificate, his dad's and my wedding rings, and a letter to the happy couple. On Wednesday, he still hadn't gotten the package. I went to our post office and was informed the package had been delivered to my son's base on Monday. Upon checking, the package was no where to be found. I was more concerned with the… Continue

Hey! We did make it to HI in March - it was a monsoon the whole time we were there but we did get to spend time with Nick so what the heck! Where is your youngest going to college? Seven month old grandbaby ---- so sweet but the real fun starts when they start walking and talking. Our granddaughter is 20 months old and we are so in LOVE with her! Where is your sailor?? We are awaiting news on orders for Nick -----------

So nice to see you, I miss the old days when there were just a few of us...learning together. Is your son on shore duty now or sea duty? San Diego is an awesome place to be. Yay, a granddaughter be prepared to be totally enchanted, our granddaughter is 10 months old and I just cannot get enough of her!

Nick is doing well, he is home-ported in Pearl Harbor but is current deployed. February will be his 4 year mark but he enlisted for six years and I look for him to reenlist as well. He made 2nd class last year and has a small (very small) apartment off base, he is still single but he is only 24 and seeing the world. One of his friends invited him to Germany for the holidays so off he goes! We are going to Hawaii to spend 10 days with him in March. Has your snow started yet?!
