Hi Lisa,
Kayla is very excited about going to the Uof O. She was considering Northwest Christian as they offered her a golf scholarship but it won't be enough to compensate for the extra cost of a private college. And they don't have premed so it looks like she'll stick with the UofO. Her mother would have preferred for her to stay in Sutherlin and go to UCC but she didn't wouldn't even consider that. She enjoyed high school but was definitely ready to graduate and move out of Sutherlin. She gets along well enough with her mother but is much closer to her dad.

Living in the country has it's advantage. I know it's not where a teenager wants to live but she'll adjust. And it will be nice to have a new home.

I got your friend's request and I accepted it. I figured I would have to send one to you as well but I haven't figured out how to do that. I'm new to this sight and haven't figured this site out. You are in my friends section on my page so I'm not sure what else I need to do, if anything.

I talked to Adam last night and he will not be coming down this weekend. He has changed to having duty every 3rd day now instead of 4 so that makes it more difficult to come down. I believe with the sub getting ready to go back in the water and the men needing to get retrained, there are less to stand watch so they're now on a 3 day rotation.

Glad tomorrow is Friday. Have a great day and I will talk to you soon. Valerie

Hi Lisa-Yes, we camped out at the coast. Blake's aunt, has a place in coast village, so we camped at her place. They have a pool there and showers so it was pretty nice. We did it last year and had a good time then as well. Kayla, Blake's oldest daughter, got off work (she works at Jerry's home improvement) on Friday afternoon and came over so she got to spend part of the weekend with the family as well. She graduated from Sutherlin in June and moved in with us after that. She is going to the University of Oregon in the fall.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Jason in September. I know Adam is hoping he'll pass his test and make rank. I know it is very stressful for them.

Adam and Kim were married in January '08. They got married before Adam left for combat training to go to Africa. They have known each other for years as they went to school together when we lived in Arkansas and got back in touch with one another a few years ago and fell in love. Funny how life is like that. Kim is very supportive of Adam's navy career and has gotten very involved in the programs for navy families. I believe she will be taking an asst. ombudsman position once the sub is back in the water and they begin filling those positions.

Do you just have the 2 children? Adam is my only child and Blake has 3-Skylar, Kayla and Karly. Skylar is 20 and lives here in Springfield.

Are you building your house there in Roseburg? I'm glad you found a mantle for the fireplace. I'm sure it will look awesome once it's completed.

I hope you enjoy your music in the park. Have a great evening and I will talk to you soon. Valerie

Hi Lisa, how was your 4th of July? We had a great time at the coast. Karly enjoyed herself because she got to spend time with a friend of hers who lives in Florence. Both Kayla and Karly golfed on Sutherlin's girl golf team so they have alot of friends all along the coast since several of the schools are in the same district.

The weather was pretty nice most of the time. Of course, on the 4th the fog rolled in about 3pm so the fireworks weren't as spectacular as they should have been. It was kind of cool that at times the sky would light up a particular color because the fog was there. It was kind of neat to see an entirely red or blue sky.

What is Jason's rank now? Adam is E5 I believe. I do know he's a petty officer, 2nd class. He's had 2 promotions since he went in and has qualified for early promotion so he will be taking that test in September.

I'm hoping Adam will be home this weekend. His wife, Kim, is leaving tonight for Washington, DC, to visit with her family for a week and he does not have duty this weekend so he thought he might come down since he'll be home alone. I hope he makes it. Since his sub is in dry dock, they have 24 hour duty every 4 days on the sub and then the other week days he does his regular job. He doesn't work weekends unless he has duty. All of that will be changing shortly as the sub finishes being overhauled and goes back into the water.

Hope your week is going well. Have a great Tuesday and I will talk to you soon! Valerie

Hi Lisa,

Is Jason at Meridian, Mississippi? Adam went there for A school after he finished basic training. He was supposed to go back in July for more school but that was cancelled due to lack of funding. The weather in the south is certainly different from Oregon. I lived in Arkansas for 30 years and that is where Adam was born and we lived in Alabama for 3 years before I moved out here so I know all about summer in the south. It can be overwelming this time of year.

Singapore sounds interesting. Not sure where Adam will end up but if he makes the navy his career, I'm sure he'll go overseas at some point. Is Jason interested in making the navy a career.

No, I have not had the opportunity to tour the sub. I would really like to do that but it's not easy because of the nuclear weapons they carry. The first time he went out on the sub, I went up and met the boat when it came in and we were supposed to be able to go down to lower base and meet the sub but that was cancelled after we all got there because the Russians showed up to do inspections. What a bummer. I would love to see one of the huge boats. The trident "boomers" are very big so I can only imagine what it's like. One of these days hopefully it will work out.

I hope you have a great weekend. We're off to Sutherlin here in a bit to pick up Karly and then off to Florence. Have a safe 4th of July and enjoy your weekend. Talk to you when I get home.

Good morning Lisa, Adam's sub has been in dry dock for about 1 1/2 years now so last year he volunteered for IA and spent 6 months in Djibouti, Africa. It was a great experience for him and other than it being extremely hot, he enjoyed it. His sub is now beginning to go through trials to be recertified so it's going to be very hectic for the Nevada crew in the upcoming months. Alot of the men transferred off of the "boat" when it went into drydock so now they have to rebuild the crews. I don't know how much you know about boomer subs but they have 2 crews(one blue and one gold) of about 125 on each crew. Everyone has to get recertitied that stayed with the boat so there is alot going on with getting the sub back up and back in the water.

Is your son training in South Carolina? That's where Adam went for his combat training before he went to Africa.

Adam would like to go to Guam or perhaps somewhere in Europe. I vote for Italy so I can come and visit...:) There aren't alot of opportunities for Adam in his present job so he recently applied for and was approved for a higher security clearance, which will open more doors for him as he's most likely going to be career navy. He is considering becoming a flag runner, which would most likely keep him in Washington for another couple of years. That makes me happy as Bangor is only about 5 hours from us.

Hi Lisa, Adam has been in the navy for about 3 1/2 years. He likes Silverdale well enough. He would really like to get stationed somewhere overseas so we'll see. It looks like he might be in Washington for the next couple years, which makes me happy. I'm glad he's stationed so close to us. How long has your son been in the navy? What is his job?

Hi Lisa, If you watched the James Happy Birthday one it is Rascal Flats, My wish for you. I just love that song. The one I made for the Niminizt, Welcome Home I took off when that trouble was starting. I had taken pics from Navy for moms on the Nimintz but Elle approved it, so Pat said it was ok, but I had already taken it off. So I'll send you the link if you didn't watch it yet. I'm pretty sure I had you in it. Just let me know if you want the link. Thanks Diane

Lisa, thanks so much for the info on how to get back to it. I've been on it since you first posted it. Your instructions were to the tee. Yesterday we even looked at it during the redbull plane races. didn't get to see much because planes go so fast, but it was fun trying and imagining my son on the deck watching them. Thanks again
