Karyn said… - Just wanted to stop in and give you an update. We got reseravations at the Navy Lodge. What a relief for cost savings. Took your advice on luggage. We each got a 25 inch suitcase. Each will either have backpack or laptop bag that attaches to the suitcase via handle (so it does not swing from side to side). Thanks for the info on squat toilets! LOL This really should be an interesting trip. Any other last minute advice...greatfully appreicatied :)

- Hi Karyn - yes, I found the prices to be higher there than what I'm used to here in AZ. I did stay off base with my son; he has an apartment, so that was a huge help. We ate out about once a day . . . if the Navy Lodge has a kitchen in the unit, you will save a lot of $ that way. We never did eat on base - maybe the prices on base are lower. There is a lot of walking - comfortable shoes a must! We used the buses and trains a lot . . . rarely used a taxi. I used one large ziplock for my down jacket and it worked like a space bag. I can't stress enough, if I had taken two suitcases, I would never have survived the train ride! My son met me when I arrived, but I had to go by myself by train back to the airport, and maneuvering my one suitcase plus carryon was a workout. Carry tissue with you when you are out and about for the public bathrooms - and google "squat toilet" - you'll get a surprise if you haven't heard about them!

After new year I am going to contact Navy Lodge and see about visitor's pass for the in and out. I had been searching hotels and it looked like $150 a night was the cheapest. I can't afford that for 2 weeks. If I remember right, you stayed with someone.correct? How did the space bags work for you? Any tips?

We have something for everyone here groups from boot camp moms to overseas moms and moms that like to scrap book. We have meet and greets to events that the moms set up to meet each other and have dinner or an outing. There are groups to help you with each and every step of this wonderful adventure that our children have chosen called the US Navy.
