The R.I. moms/families get together went great. It was wonderful to meet everyone, and share our stories and concerns! Some "native" Rhode Islanders think they need a passport to leave their little area of the state, so we have not decided on a location (or a date) for our next get-together! Hopefully those of you who were not able to attend will join us next time. Hugs :) Lois Continue

Lois,

The bonfire was great, but rather chilly. Joe and I enjoyed it a lot. Sorry you couldn't join us. Next year we'll go together.

I tried to call you but couldn't get through. So sorry for the loss of your uncle. It's been a difficult week for both of us. PLEASE let me know if the re is anything I can do for you. Call me when you can.

Hugs,
Trish

Hi Lois, I was wondering how you sent your son his car? My son is in Ca. and has the same problem about getting around. We live in Il. and the drive is so far. Thank you for any info on this, Suzanne.

Hi Lois. Thanks for adding me as your friend. I see your son is now in the Reserves as is my son. He graduated MAA A school in Virginia in March and is now stationed in the Bronx, NY even though we live in NJ. He is going in a couple of weeks for some training in PA. I am so glad you have your Sailor home safe and sound from his deployment.

Marianne has been great to me. She supported me the first week my son went into BC and has been there every since. I guess you know how nice she is since you are her friend too. I appreciate your offer of support too. I am going for my second Chemo treatment tomorrow and had to pull out the
wig this weekend. You gotta do what you gotta do to get healthy. I was shocked to find out I was Stage 3A since I thought I found it very early. I had just had a mammogram in November and nothing was there. Last week my mother was told she also has a lump that they are almost sure is CA as she already had a mastectomy on the other side 26 years ago. She goes for a biopsy on Thursday. We are both trying to stay positive. If you don't mind me asking, what is your story. You can PM me if you don't want to put it here.
Thanks again for offering your support. I look forward to hearing more about your Sailor!!

Lois, Thanks for your help. Derek told me the reservist stayed at Camp Moral in Kiwait, that they didn't go on into Iraq. I had the feeling that might not be the case. He is a builder and last trip they were out in the field (sand) staying in tents, building housing for the Marines, setting up new bases. They were seldom on an established base. (I know he's just trying to keep me from worrying, but I would rather know what's around the next corner.)
I'm so glad that your boy is home, safe and sound!!! Were you able to go to the base for his homecoming? That, to me, was the best ever!! I thought my heart would come right out of my chest.
I hope he is doing well, adjusting to being back home? Sometimes it takes a while. They work them long, long hrs. in Iraq, then to come back and adjust to a regular pase, can sometimes take a while.
Thanks again for your input, I'm enjoying chatting with everyone. I didn't know about this site, until my son had finished active duty. Wow would it have come in handy for my thousands of questions that I had then.
Have a great day...Debbie

Hi Lois, I am thankful that you wrote...But I'm sad about Iraq. Im still a little sad just about Port Hueneme, California. All I can say is I miss my son and I hope I will be brave if he ever has to to oversees. I dont know too much about this long journey of seebees navy reserves...I just got through boot camp and now waiting for him to come home from A school...Glad to make friends with you..Marc will be in my prayers..Ellen

Hi Lois, LOL on our kids names. We love the name Marc, don't we? LOL
Am so glad to hear that he did well in Iraq and not side effects now. I was just wondering. I know they all are different to reacting to things but just wanted to know.
That is interesting that he is more somber now. Doesn't surprise me tho as to what they must have seen over there. I am sure my son will be the same way when he comes home from Iraq too. Am glad your son has someone to talk to about it even if it isn't you.
Sure hope he finds a job tho. Didn't he have one before he left? They are required to keep the jobs for our guys.
But enjoy having him home in the states now tho.

Hi Lois,
My name is Debbie S. My son Derek, is a SeaBee also. He served 5 yrs active duty, got out last Aug. then just a few wks ago signed on as active reserve. (He was in Iraq as well as Guam) My question to you is, what did your son do in Iraq as a reservist? My son,I think might be sugar coating what reservist do. He knows how hard is was for me during that tour, so I'm
really wondering if the duties are the same??
Any info would be helpful. I'm new to this reservist thing, feel like I'm starting all over again.

Hi Lois, How long was Marc in Iraq? That had to be hard for you. Michael is RI Newport Base for three years. We must get together. What's a good time? We have a lot of catching up.
