Sorry for such a delayed response, Chris. AFB= Air Force Base. My son, who is a SNA (student naval aviator), was sent to do primary at the AFB in Enid, Ok.b/c there were too many pilots going to Corpus (where he originally was slotted to go).

Nate was scheduled to have his first flight in the T-6 this morning. (He's a SNA doing primary on an AFB.) Checked & the weather was good. Still wondering though if it actually happened...haven't heard yet. Very exciting!

Hi Lynn,
I saw where you said Nate is looking for a church. If he enjoyed CCC he might enjoy Officer's Christian Fellowship. Local contacts can be found on their website. In a couple of instances it was our OCS Bible study friends that pointed us to a good church. When stationed overseas they were our family.

Jon has been in since June/2007. For the majority of that time, he was in Goose Creek, N.C. at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command. An em is an electrician's mate [MM-machinist's mate, EM- electrician's mate, ET electrical technition(sp?)] The reactor area is where the nuclear power is generated. Off limits to most personel. And bless your lil ol pea-pickin heart for asking! I basically know diddly- I just fake it.

I have tried 3 times to email you and it keeps getting kicked back to me :(

So here is the abbreviated version :)

Give Nathan a big hug for us. We are so proud of him and happy for him.

Gary and I leave soon for Israel. It is SUKKOT, the fall feast and I've never beenn for that. Am so excited to go. And Chris is already there. So the reunion will be great!

Then I leave for San Diego to see Nate's ship come in and will be there for about 4 days. Email me with you cell number and I will call you when I am there :)

Hi Lynn, I saw you intro. Several East Bay have mentioned wanting to do a Meet & Greet in Nov. There is a good size group from Antioch to Milpitas. How is you son doing? We have not talked to our in 2 weeks - he is out somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. So we'll just have to wait. Bea

Hello Lynn, I'm a newbie also. My son is an EM in the reator group aboard the aircraft carrier Eisenhower. I know, different species altogether. He dwells in the bowels of the ship and your son flies high in the sky. But, we are in the same neck of the woods, so I thought I'd just drop by to say "Hi".

Lynn--Sorry for the delay in responding! My son graduated from the Naval Academy in May of 2007. He volunteered to go to Vance in Enid after P'cola for the obvious reason that it would be close to home!

The Air Force trains quite differently from the Navy. They take more of a "babysitting" approach to training. The Navy tells you what you need to know by when and then trusts you to prepare. The Air Force tells you what you need to know, then proceeds to spoon-feed the information to you and then makes you sit in class and study it again.

Brett thought this approach might be good for him, but after a while, it drove him crazy! Most of these young men and women do not need babysitters! I don't think any of the Naval aviators detest going through Enid. However, it is kind of a dying town in the middle of nowhere. There's not much to do unless you drive to Oklahoma City--about 45 minutes away.

Brett was able to come home every weekend since we live so close. Also, he did have time off at Thanksgiving and Christmas. My door would always be open to your son, but I would have to warn you--I am not home much! My husband and I have a commuter marriage (LONG story!) and I have family in Kansas and Missouri, so I am gone a lot.

I hope this helps a little!
