About me:
My oldest son is being picked up today, November 19th, 2008 at 1600 hours.I'm sitting here in rollers (for last pictures) before he's picked up at our house. I'm anxious and while I've said and written all I need to say to him, I still feel a sense that I need to say so much more but my eyes water as I think about it and I don't want him to worry about me. I can save my tears for after he's gone.
I have 3 sons and married 25 years.
Phillip didn't like College and needed a path for life. He chose the US Navy and as I'm grateful that he's decided to take action for his future, I'm also nervous. He's chosen IT for his field. He loves computers and is quite smart. And because he has college credit hours, he will get credit in the Navy earning higher pay down the road.
I am in Marketing for Costco Wholesale and my husband is a High School teacher (Sciences). My middle son is at Texas A&M and youngest son is a Senior in High School.
I am here to support or represent my:
Phillip
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Feedback from others who has a relative in the forces; "it will be a good experience for him and will turn him into a responsible man."

A School in Pensacola

My son graduated from Great Lakes, Illinois on January 15th, and left for Pensacola, Florida 5 days later for A school (IT training). He called once and left a message but I couldn't make out one word he said. I have been waiting to hear back from him but no calls.
Is there a way to send him his cell phone if I do not have an address other than what I mentioned above?
Can anyone tell me from their experience if this is normal.
I thought there would be more flexibility in A school but this feels… Continue

Hello Marissa, Your guy is very handome. I am so proud of mine also. I am glad you wrote me. You talked about being selfish. My neighbor had two sons move (not join the armed forces) to other states. I was talking with her the other day our tears are really for us because they have gone. It is because we are lonely without them. I thought and thought about this and she is right. I am very happy for him and him and I have to start a new chapter of our lives. I am still sad but it gets easier everyday. I am so glad you wrote me. Thank you for your support.

hi marissa, I'm so glad to see you have your sons address, I was about to look up my son josh's address when he was in pensacola. he's in jacksonville now, and he did like pensacola when he was there. i heard from him all the time when he got settled in there, now he doesn't get good cell reception and has to go outside to call in jacksonville so i don't hear from him as much. the first few days are adjustments and learning the differences from boot camp, but it will get easier...i didn't write as much as boot camp because i heard from him all the time. hang in there theres so muc h support on this website i thank God for all the wonderful people that help us "NAVY Momsand Dads" God bless you and Phillip and all the members of this website!!!!

Marissa-My son PIR 1/15/09 also. What div is your son in? Tom is in Div 067 and his bunk mate is from Lubbock Texas. Is that close to where you live?

I'm married to a High School teacher and Phillip is having PIR during the week of finals so he will not be going to Illinois. My youngest son is involved in band at High School and will be going to State so he's not able to go either. My middle son and I will go and I hope that I can take tons of pics/video to share when I return. I'm bummed about the timing. But happy that I'm going!
I'm thinking of inviting my sister and mother to go-I'm sure they would be thrilled.
