Melissa, I just read your post on your daughter and her boyfriend, and boy, do I AGREE WITH YOU! My daughter is going to BC in August, and I am SO encouraging her to go because she, too, NEEDS IT. These kids need to learn responsibility, and we as parents have tried, but sometimes they just need something (like the Navy) to help them grow up and be more responsible and make better choices. My own daughter couldn't get motivated about ANY thing, to save her life...UNTIL she got involved in the DEP part of the Navy. Wow, I just LOVE how her recruiter lights a fire under her to get things done! LOL I just wanted to let you know that as mom, I support you, because we seem to be in the same boat, so to speak. ;) By the way, if I were you, I WOULD call the recruiter to tell him how happy you are that he enlisted your daughter...NOTHING wrong with that, and I'm sure he'd be happy to hear it from you!

Hi Melissa! I'm fairly new to N4M, but I feel like I've known people forever. I'm from Indianapolis, quite a distance from you, and my daughter is in the NROTC program at Texas A&M University at Galveston. Right now she is in Norfolk for summer naval training, and then she'll finally be home for a few weeks. Even though she's going to college first, she is so far away, at least 1000 miles from home. I know how you feel missing you daughter; sometimes my husband and I just look at Mary's pictures and remember when she was young. She is our only child, so we have been thrust into the empty nest too. We are all very close, but we know she has to fly from the nest and make her way in this life.

I'm so glad to be in the N4M group; I've learned so much about the Navy experience from others, and it helps me know what to expect down the road. Thanks for sharing from your heart.

Thank you! Your welcome made me cry! This is also so hard- I am happy/scare excited you name it! as a mother. My daughter, Ashley, will be leaving on June 16 for boot camp. She is almost 22 and has some college and joined to get a good career but also for the college funding. She will be going into IT Tech (?) I know that the tech school is in Pensacola, FL. Funny thing is, I told her to see to her travel and see the World while she was young and single and had no resonsibliities- Who knew she would do it on a Naval Ship?????????? I was thinking more in line of a student exchange! Really I support her 1000%, Guess I will be the one packing MY bags to travel the World to go and see her as her assignments will allow. I have been around Military before, my daughter's father was in the Air Force and we lived in San Diego for about 10 years near NAS Miramar and had friends who's husband were either Marines or Navy- so I do have a good understanding. of what she is enbarking on,
I thank you for your welcome and hope to meet other moms as well.
