Momof5inTEx,

I see you live in Missouri CIty, Texas. I live in Texas City, Texas and we have a Texas Group also. To answer your question, they do have to be within their weight limit and if they are not they will not let them in the NAVY, but his recruiter should work with him very hard on that issue. If you need anything else, please let me know. My son has been in since February 11, 2009.

If you haven't read my blog you should and have him read it to. 10 lbs is not much. If he drinks alot of soda or caffinated drinks tell him giving them up will make a great difference.

Hi, That probably would be a good idea. My son started running a few weeks before he left, however, I think he wishes he had done more. Anything to prepare physically before he leaves will only help him through the process. There are alot of videos and a wealth of information on this site that could probably help him to know of some of the things that will be coming up for him. Boot Camp is I'm sure mentally and physically challenging. Perhaps this can serve as a tool to help him be prepared the best that he can. I'm sure he will do great -- and you too, Mom!

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy for 2 years and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19) has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz.. What will your son be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your DEP recruit. Pat

Hello Mom of 5, Well, first of all let me say, Wow! Five children; I'm impressed. Welcome to the Navy For Moms site. My son left for Boot Camp and is scheduled to graduate in 11 days!! I would not have been able to endure this process without this site. I truly mean this. The Ladies here are wonderful. You will find the information and support you need here to get through this process with your son. Since you have a while before he leaves you will have an opportunity to learn so much before he leaves just by reading the posts. Take care and again welcome!!
