Sammie…I read you post about your daughter wanting to ‘reclass’ into the Nuke program once she’s at Great Lakes next summer. My son has been in the Nuke pipeline for about 3 years and I asked him about that last night. He said he doesn’t know a Nuke (ET, EM or MM) that changed their rate once they joined. I read both of Josh (NC1) posts on your page and in my opinion, as an informed Nuke parent, he is 100% correct.
If your daughter did that well on the ASVAB she should be OK for the Nuke program. There is a Nuclear Aptitude Placement Test (NAPT) she maybe required to take. This is dependent on how her ASVAB scores actually add up…never did understand that part. The Nuke program is and has always been considered “undermanned” in Navy terms. Additionally, it is my understanding that recruiters get extra credit for successful Nuke program candidates, as stated by Josh. If she is unhappy with the answers from her current recruiter she should ask to speak his supervisor or an officer in the command. Several times during my son’s recruitment process we were unhappy with information and answers we were given and went to our recruiter’s Chief. The Chief was excellent and always provided timely answers. My attitude was this is a 6 year commitment by my son and it needed to be done correctly.
Good luck to your daughter and please ask questions if you have them.
My son's signed up to leave for BC March 3rd. From there I believe he goes to Pensacola FL for his A school. (aviation avionics). Once he's completed his A school how is his base determined? Also with his field of choice will he be on a ship? Any imput is greatly appreciated.
I watched the boot camp video Ron posted on the Deppers Group. They mentioned that the recruits can bring with them specific items that are on an approved list. Where do I get this list? I was under the impression that they would go only with the clothes on their back and a cell phone for this initial call home which would then be shipped back with their personal belongings. Any clarification would be appreciated, and thanks for joining this group.
The new rules state we can't have any sailors last names, not sure if you caught the new opsec rules for the site or not. If you need any help changing your name, just let me know.
