Profile Information

About me:
Our son was originally a DEP'er and progressed to be the Master-at-Arms for his Division at PIR. Three years later, he is now a Gunnersmate Petty Officer 2nd Class and just returned from his second deployment. He would like to be a SEAL some day. We are so proud of him. We live, eat, and breathe "Navy"! I am a NavyMom!
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
In bootcamp, the Navy temporarily strips the recruits of their identity. Although this sounds so sterile, it is so necessary in order to "be there" when their comrades need them most. The Navy just "fills in" those spots that need polishing. Things they've never been exposed to but could be. I saw my son in a whole new light after PIR. He was responsible, he saw others in a different light as well. It was personal growth in 8 weeks.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Derrick's First Place

Derrick just moved into his very own apartment in San Diego. It's on base in one of the high rises. On the 17th floor with city and Coronado Bridge views. He has no clue this is the perfect "Bachelor Pad with a View" place. I'm jealous. Wish I was there also .... esp when it is in single digits here in Chicago.

Hey Nancy Jean, I don't know if you still need info on nursing here in San Diego or not. I've been at Children's San Diego for about 11 years and have a pretty good hold on the union vs. non-union, etc. here.

Nancy Jean, Been there, done that! My son is a GM, went to Ft. Riley for combat training, including the medical stuff you wrote about. He was in the "stanbox" for almost a year with the army. He's glad he did it, but says he never wants to see it again. Keep in touch with me, will you? He's at GL now as an instructor.

Hi Nancy

Just reading that you will be heading out to San Diego soon; there is a possibility that I may go out there as well to see my daughter, who is stationed in Point Loma. I wish you and yours a safe trip, and please post and let me know how it went!! My very best to you sailor!!

Thanks! So sweet of you! Hope your son is doing well. My boys have been running and swimming in camos and boots in training! VLS school started today finally. They can't seem to get a direct answer as to an address out yonder, each one they are given, I get my letters back as undeliverable. Not so bad as calls are doing the job, except they have a birthday this month and would like to send something! Oh well, gotta do what we gotta do! They were a bit leary in the beginning, did not know anyone there, now several others they knew in GL is now there, so I hear less from them! Take care of yourselves! :0}

Hi! Wanted to thank you for the encouraging words you wrote on the GM page. I think we as parents, or other sources of support for our sailors need to be supportive of them, and help keep them enthuased, even when they are not. Maybe more so at that time. So to hear such sincere concern for all the sailors as to your wise answer, I appreciated that! I have alot in common also, as I just sent my two boys out to SD to go to VLS school. They have always wanted to be SEALS also, and hope to have a chance to try out next yr or so. Congratulations to your sailor, and God Bless them all. Again, thanks for your knowledgable words of wisdom!

Nancy,

So sorry about the confusion. It was not my idea to change locations,
if I hadn't checked my email I would not have known about the change either. Next time I will not let that happen to you, Sorry again
